The Position

We are seeking a highly experienced procurement leader with marketing expertise to lead the TA (THERAPUTIC AREA) and Commercial Category Procurement team within Novo Nordisk Inc. Categories in-scope include Marketing, Paid Media and Market Research among other commercial disciplines. With an annual spend in this area of approximately $1.5B, this leader enables all activities related to the successful acquisition of high-quality goods/services at the best possible prices and business terms for NNI. This individual will work closely with leaders in Finance, Commercial Insights & Analytics, and the Commercial Strategy and Marketing organization as well as other key functional areas within the company.

Relationships

Reports to the Vice President of NNI Business Solutions (NBS) and is member of NBS LT.

Essential Functions

  • Sourcing strategies:

  • In partnership with stakeholders, partner to drive the business priorities for each TA partnership, including products, business model, challenges, marketing needs and KPIs

  • Develop a comprehensive marketing strategy, plan, and program architecture, supporting each partnership’s business priorities, with the goal of delivering the best marketing performance for both partners

  • Quickly builds a deep understanding of the complex and differentiated customer landscape that NNI Business Solutions, specifically the Procurement team, is supporting across the value chain

  • TA/Brand Alignment, Content Curation, Activation and Promotion - Collaborate with business partners (Marketing, Product Marketing, Field Marketing, Sales, Creative Agencies (as Needed) And Other Content Creators) to identify, curate and customize (where appropriate) high-performing, measurable assets and programs, including:

  • Product and partnership messaging with associated positioning frameworks

  • Top of Funnel thought leadership and awareness content

  • Marketing assets for syndication in partner owned newsletters, press releases, and digital media channels (e.g. social media, web)

  • Further asset amplification on relevant Novo owned marketing platforms and channels (e.g. web, social, community, PR)

  • Inspires innovative thinking:

  • Drives cross-functional collaboration, fosters a culture of innovation, and explores new approaches to align procurement strategies with the Commercial Strategy and Marketing organization

  • Leads a team that goes beyond traditional category management functions with a significant focus on business partnership and driving value for stakeholders

  • Supplier relationships:

  • Drives Strategic Sourcing for Therapeutic Areas and Commercial needs:

  • Identify, evaluate, and select vendors or suppliers for marketing-related goods and services such as advertising, promotional materials, market research, and digital marketing services

  • Develop and implement team sourcing strategies to support marketing campaigns and initiatives, ensuring alignment with the company's objectives and cost-efficiency

  • Delivers a best-in-class business partnering SRM program that does trend-spotting, maximizes performance and tracks insightful KPIs across key suppliers including Marketing and Media Agencies of Record

  • Brings innovation to life from suppliers and partners in order to drive digital and commercial strategies for HCP and Patients

  • Acts as a champion for supplier diversity and environmental sustainability, and helps drive initiatives related to environmental and social responsibility

  • Provides strategic procurement leadership and partnership:

  • Leads a team of direct reports, develops and executes upon strong procurement category strategies aligned with the overall business objectives, largely within the Finance and Commercial Strategy & Marketing organizations

  • Stakeholder Management - aligns with partnership stakeholders to ensure marketing programs closely align to business goals. Continuously evangelizes marketing strategy, plans and results, while collaborating for ongoing refinement

  • Provides decision support, insights, and recommendations to key stakeholders, leveraging expertise in procurement and category management to support informed decision-making

  • Drives the achievement of savings targets in support of overall company goals

  • Provides insight to the VP, NNI Business Solutions in overseeing the development, monitoring and analysis of key procurement metrics for continuous improvement

  • Proactively looks for synergies across the organization to reduce costs and leverage resources

  • Measurement - Ensures all programs have clear and measurable success metrics, while championing a “test and learn” optimization approach. Analyzes and optimizes partner marketing program performance to increase partner engagement, while continuing improving program success metrics

  • Internal Advocacy and Global Best Practice Sharing - Supports and contributes to internal communication vehicles to update, educate and share success stories. Shares and syndicates best practices, high performing programs and strategies with extended project teams

  • Provides strategic coaching and direction:

  • Provides necessary direction, guidance, and support to Category Leaders and Managers

  • Scopes out high-profile supplier engagements for senior level executives, develops and negotiates agreements and manages suppliers to ensure deliverables are met

  • Inspires and motivates:

  • Promotes a healthy and engaging work environment. Communicates with optimism, enthusiasm and sincerity across all levels

  • Considers compliance, regulatory, quality assurance and other requirements when supporting all Procurement and Category Management activities

    Physical Requirements

    10-20% overnight travel required.

    Development of People

    Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process.

    Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility.

    Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.

    Qualifications

  • A Bachelors degree required, advanced degree preferred

  • Requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a minimum of 5 years previous experience in Procurement/Purchasing, Strategic Sourcing, Finance, or Accounting. 5 or more years of supervisory experience required

  • Strong marketing acumen, especially in paid media, with the ability and curiosity to learn our therapeutic areas

  • Prior experience leading a brand marketing team or advertising agency management, a plus

  • Ability to positively enforce compliance

  • Demonstrated proficiency in personal computers and all elements of Microsoft Office Suite

  • Familiar with and committed to supplier diversity

  • Knowledge of current sourcing systems including SAP Finance suite and Ariba or comparable systems experience required

  • Must possess excellent communication, people, analytical, and organizational skills

  • Must possess the ability to multi-task effectively, complete work in a timely manner and work well with others

  • Pharmaceutical industry experience helpful but not required

  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills and is able to relate to all levels within organization

  • Strong knowledge of Procurement methodologies, tools, processes and purchasing practices

  • Training and change management experience preferred

  • Well-versed in supplier relationship management and innovation
