Reference #: 4502660 THE POSITION The Department of Human Services, Bureau of Juvenile Justice Services (BJJS), Northeast Secure Treatment Unit is seeking dedicated first-line supervisors to effectively guide, assist, and motivate staff to make a difference in the lives of court-adjudicated youth. We are seeking supervisors who are willing to roll up their sleeves and actively engage in working directly with the people you supervise, will develop effective relationships with staff and court-adjudicated youth to help address personal problems, and provide positive reinforcement to instill proper attitudes and responsible behaviors, and respond well in controversial situations and hold others and their self-accountable for actions. This position involves a willingness to work with a diverse population along with a driving desire to make a difference in the lives of youth.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing employees who work with court-adjudicated youth in a secure or restricted setting, providing guidance, instruction, treatment, and specialized services. You will need to assign tasks to staff members, ensuring that reports are completed in a timely manner, and actively participate in the physical care, custody, and supervision of the youths' daily activities, which include recreation, housekeeping, personal hygiene, work assignments, and program requirements.

Additionally, you will assist professional staff in implementing treatment plans and monitoring the progress of the youths in achieving their goals. Communication with the youth is a crucial aspect of this role, as you will need to engage with them about their thought processes, actions, and personal problems to help them develop responsible behaviors and attitudes.

Maintaining order within the facility is also a key responsibility, which may involve verbally and physically intervening with disruptive, emotionally improper, and suicidal youth. You will need to be trained in appropriate physical restraint techniques to prevent escapes, control aggressiveness, and ensure a safe and secure environment for both staff and youth under your supervision.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment Work hours include shift work in a 24/7 operation, weekends and holidays, 8-hour shifts normally consisting of 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, 3:00 PM to 11:00PM, and 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM with no duty-free lunch: 5-day work week with 2 regular days off Travel as needed. Overtime as needed; may be voluntary and possibly mandatory Travel and overtime may change based on operational need. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year of experience as a Juvenile Justice Specialist (commonwealth title); or Three years of experience in the care, custody, activities, or personal guidance of adolescents or adults in a human services or social services program, law enforcement or correctional program, or an educational, community, or military organization; or One year of experience in the care, custody, activities, or personal guidance f adolescents or adults in a human services or social services program, law enforcement or correctional program, or an educational, community, or military organization; and an associate's degree in social sciences, counseling, restorative justice, juvenile justice, child development, behavioral sciences, human services, criminal justice, education, or a closely related field; or An equivalent combination of experience and training. Special Requirement: All employees must be at least 21 years old at the time of application. Other Requirements: PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title. You must be able to perform essential job functions. Legal Requirements: A conditional offer of employment will require satisfactory completion of a medical examination. This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law. Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
