Berkshire Immigrant Center* Education Director in Pittsfield, Massachusetts
The Berkshire Immigrant Center is seeking a full-time Education Director to create and expand educational opportunities to help immigrants obtain citizenship, as well as equip them to engage in civic life and contribute meaningfully to the local community. By guiding clients toward citizenship, you\'ll help reunite families and provide them with the stability and opportunities they need to thrive, underscoring the profound impact BIC has on individuals and the community at large. BIC provides free citizenship classes to help students prepare for their naturalization interview, with a focus on interview skills, U.S. history and government, and basic English reading and writing. Classes are offered in a variety of flexible formats, including small groups, individual sessions, video classes, and, in certain cases, home visits. These classes provide safe spaces where students from diverse backgrounds can connect, form friendships, and build a sense of belonging. Recognizing that many students have demanding schedules, you\'ll have the autonomy to design class times and program offerings that respect both your availability and the needs of our students, maximizing engagement and creating a supportive learning environment. Responsibilities: - Conduct intake and skills assessments for new students, ensuring proper class placement - Schedule and confirm appointments and classes on a weekly basis - Prepare for classes - Develop and update citizenship curricula as needed - Supervise volunteer tutors supporting student learning - Refer clients to other adult education or ESOL programs as necessary - Communicate with caseworkers to provide updates on student progress and readiness for N400 application filing - Conduct exit interviews with clients who have passed the citizenship test to collect information on their interview experience with USCIS, including types of questions asked and interview conditions - Track and maintain student progress reports, compile monthly statistical data, and enter assessment notes into Cerenade - Send congratulatory letters and voter registration cards to new citizens - Manage presentations, workshops, speaking engagements, and broader educational outreach - Develop new services to support civic participation - Explore ways to enhance the organization\'s current limited ESOL support, offered through citizenship classes - Identify and explore opportunities to expand educational services based on student needs and organizational goals - Collaborate with the Development Director by providing information for education program-specific grant proposals and reviewing them as needed Qualifications: - Bachelor\'s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience - 3 years of experience teaching citizenship-related content and ESOL, with a focus on U.S. history, government, and interview techniques - Experience with curriculum development - Excellent communication and collaboration skills - Strong program development and management skills - Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and database software - Ability to manage multiple tasks, organize, and prioritize - Ability to work independently and as part of a team - Ability to manage confidential information with impeccable discretion - Familiarity with local resources and organizations a plus *To ensure you have the knowledge needed to guide students effectively, BIC provides professional training on immigration procedures and relevant legislation.
