UPMC Tax Analyst, Senior (Hybrid Remote) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Purpose:

The UPMC Corporate Tax Department is seeking a motivated individual to join its team as a Tax Analyst. This position offers an opportunity for either an entry-level candidate with an interest in beginning a career in tax or an individual with tax experience looking to expand their skills within a unique and multifaceted organization.

As a Tax Analyst, the successful candidate will have an opportunity to make an immediate impact, working with their Tax Department colleagues and other stakeholders throughout the organization to support and further UPMC and its healthcare mission.This position will be based out of the US Steel Tower in Pittsburgh, PA. This position will have the potential to work from home with a hybrid schedule which includes some days in office and some days at home.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing support across all areas owned by the Tax Department.

  • Developing an understanding of tax concepts relevant to the Tax Department’s mission (e.g., nonprofit, charity and tax-exemption concepts, corporate and partnership taxation, insurance taxation, state and local taxes, international taxes, and tax principles associated with compensation, employee benefits and payroll).

  • Analyzing and interpreting financial, statutory, regulatory and other information.

  • Performing tax research.

  • Preparing and reviewing various federal, state, local, and international tax and tax-related forms.

  • Communicating and coordinating (both in-person and digitally, as the situation requires) with Tax Department colleagues and counterparts from other areas of the UPMC organization.

  • Attending key meetings and discussions.

  • Adopting a continuous improvement mindset, including identifying procedural inefficiencies and leading or assisting with the development of associated improvement solutions.

  • Recognizes accounting issues related to tax reporting requirements.

  • Prepares basic to moderately complex account and tax analyses.

  • Performs all responsibilities in a manner that demonstrates appropriate behavior towards patients, staff peers and other departments, as defined in the Basics of Service Excellence.

  • Recognizes basic to moderately complex tax issues and strategizes potential solutions.

  • Identifies tax internal control procedural inefficiencies, develops solutions for corrections and oversees implementation of corrective measures.

  • Ability to present documented tax research and analyses on assigned and self identified tax issues with suggested conclusion and/or courses of action.

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, tax law/accounting or related business field required.

  • Minimum of three years of tax experience required.

  • CPA/MST preferred.

  • Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism, enthusiasm, and initiative as well as the ability to work under stringent deadlines.

  • Experience with general ledger, tax compliance, tax research, spreadsheet, word processing and other business software is highly preferred.

  • A working knowledge of personal computers and familiarity with various business, finance and tax related software preferred.

  • Understanding of basic to moderate tax reporting requirements for all structures of entities and the ability to complete compliance in any/all areas as necessary required.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of basic sources of accounting/tax literature.

  • Understanding of basic to complex financial statements and related support schedules.

  • Supervisory experience recommended.

  • A strong work ethic, a positive attitude, a high degree of professionalism, an eagerness to learn, a willingness to be coached, good communication skills, and an ability to work as part of a team are all required. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
