Research Project Manager

The University of Pittsburgh, Ophthalmology department is looking for a Research Project Manager. The Ophthalmology Remote Access Program is a new initiative of the University and UPMC Vision Institute that aims to apply implementation science/learning health system principles to provide ophthalmic care where people are. Facets of the program include remote testing, remote screening, remote consultation in primary care and community-based emergency departments, ophthalmic care in adult living facilities, and eConsults.

Qualifications:

Education: a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field such as Public Health, Health Administration, or another related field.

Experience: prior experience in project management, especially in leading and managing is desirable.

Implementation Science Understanding: familiarity with evidence-based interventions, dissemination and implementation efforts, and strategies for integrating interventions into healthcare or community settings.

Skills: strong leadership, organizational, negotiation, and communication skills are essential. Knowledge of project management methodologies is important.

Job Summary

Manages all aspects of one or more projects for a research program and oversees all aspects of the project lifecycle. Provides leadership, technical direction, coordination, and expertise across projects. Analyzes progress and/or performance and prepares reports. Ensures compliance with budget, scope, timeline, and regulations. Assists with external communications.

Essential Functions

Supervises the coordinators including hiring, distributing, and reviewing work, performance reviews, and documenting disciplinary actions and other administrative duties.Manages work schedules and approves timecards.Provides professional development opportunities.

Prepares grant applications, performs literature reviews, and prepares manuscripts.

Writes research papers; assists principal investigator (PI) with complex research papers.

Oversees and coordinates IRB and QI applications and reporting.

Monitors, audits, and reviews research studies. Compiles and records data; accesses feasibility, establishes protocol-specific recruitment plans, and coordinates multiples studies simultaneously.

Monitors study budget/s and expenditures. Orders supplies; communicates effectively with vendors.

Prepares, coordinates, and negotiates study contracts.

Establishes effective community connections; identifies future community education opportunities.

Facilitates project meetings and/or presentations of work as directed.

Physical Effort

The position will require local travel to remote care locations to assess site suitability, engaging local stakeholders, and occasionally supervising care implementation in-person.
