UPMC Professional Staff Nurse - OR in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Currently offering a generous Sign-On Bonus of $15,000 for nurses with over 1 year of experience for a 2-year work commitment!

UPMC Shadyside is hiring a full-time Professional Staff Nurse to join their OR team! In this role, you will work 2 8-hour shifts and 2 12-hour shifts per week with occasional weekends, holidays, and on-call on a rotating basis!

UPMC Shadyside’s Operating Room (OR) serves patients through various surgical specialties including neuro, cardiac, ortho, vascular, urology, plastics, thoracic, robotics, and more! We do see a heavy oncology patient population. We are a 24-bed OR and we see over 60 cases per day. We are currently transitioning to a self-scheduling model to offer our staff greater work-life balance, and we boast a limited surgical schedule on the weekends. Our OR is a very team-centered department- we are one big team that helps each other out!

Responsibilities

  • Consistently give appropriate feedback to all members of the health care team and participate in the nursing peer review process.

  • Demonstrate highly developed clinical assessment and analytical skills within the context of Relationship Based Care.

  • Apply the nursing process within the framework of Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment.

  • Formulate daily goals and a plan of care for patients that involves the patient as a partner and consider the individual needs of the patient in a holistic manner.

  • Create comprehensive patient documentation and promote communication between caregivers.

  • Create a caring and compassionate patient-focused experience by building healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.

  • Prior nursing experience is preferred but not required. Graduate Nurses are encouraged to apply!

  • Operating room experience is preferred, but not required.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.

  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.

  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity.

  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.

Licensure/Certification

  • UPMC approved national certification preferred.

  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.

  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

  • Fit Testing Required

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
