UPMC Ophthalmic Technician I- UPMC Vision Institute-Oakland in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a full-time Ophthalmic Technician I to support UPMC Vision Institute-Oakland located at: 203 Lothrop Street 6th Floor Pittsburgh, PA 15213.This position will work Monday through Friday daylight hours- varying daylight shifts as per clinical need between the hours of 7a-5p (no weekends or holidays). This role will require travel to satellite locations (Shadyside, Forbes, Mercy, St. Margaret’s, Monroeville, Wexford, Bethel Park, Natrona Heights) as needed for coverage. 25% of the time.
Candidate will perform all aspects of patient in-take for the physician. This includes, but is not limited to medical history, review of medications, weight/BP, obtaining visual acuity, IOP measurements, motility and confrontational field assessment, pupil assessment, dilation, etc., assisting with imaging when needed (performing HVFs/OCTs), and assisting with in-baskets, patient messages, voicemails, etc., and other admin duties as assigned under the direction of the Lead Coordinator. (other duties as assigned)
Purpose:
Obtain detailed information from patients and perform a variety of diagnostic tests to the eyes to aid in the diagnosis and treatment course
Responsibilities:
Refractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to -
Contact lenses: insertion, removal and instructions
Pupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate.
History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family.
Lensometry: automated and manual
Angle assessment & dilation of pupils
Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day.
Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fields
Supplemental skills: Color testing, glare test
Ocular Motility: Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmus
Tonometry: Icare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of
Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuity
High school diploma or equivalent is required
Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Ophthalmology office or combination of related education and/or experience preferred.
Completion of AAO Home Study Course is preferred. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Valid CPR certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
