Carnegie Mellon University HVAC Mechanic I - Facilities Management & Campus Services (FMCS) in PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania

Reference #: 2019131 Carnegie Mellon University's Facilities Management (FMS) department is searching for an HVAC Mechanic I to join our team! In this role, you will perform work such as maintaining, repairing, and operating HVAC equipment including reciprocating and centrifugal chillers, self-contained air conditioning units, refrigeration equipment in laboratories and dining service facilities, fan coil units, air handling units and fans.

Core responsibilities will include: Adjusting and repairs to pneumatic, electric, and electronic control components; Monitoring and controlling equipment via computer interfaces, requisition job parts and supplies Inspecting and monitoring maintenance and repair functions and system equipment operations; Operating on and off-road utility vehicles and trucks Reading and interpreting blueprints and schematic diagrams, and being familiar with building codes Other duties as assigned You Must Demonstrate: Strong communication skills and ability to work optimally with other crafts employees; Expertly manage interactions with challenging customers. Ability to move and work in confined spaces, up and down ladders and to work from ladders, scaffolding and bucket truck platform; Ability to lift 40 pounds from ground to overhead; Occasionally work outside during inclement conditions. Work independently and make appropriate decisions as to when additional help is needed. Qualifications: High School diploma or GED required, Graduation from a trade certification or apprenticeship program as a HVAC or Air Conditioning mechanic. Universal/CFC management training Minimum of three (3) years' experience as a journeyman level HVAC mechanic required, with experience in a large institutional (college, university, hospital, etc.) setting. Additional experience in HVAC system and DDC installations preferred Equivalent experience and/or education may be considered in lieu of degree EPA CFC Universal certification, City of Pittsburgh Stationary Engineers License, certification as Operating Engineer preferred Must be a member of, or agree to join Local #95 International Union of Operating Engineers Requirements: Successful Background Check PA Child Protection Clearances (Act 153) Valid PA Driver's License Motor Vehicle Records (conducted annually) Fitness for duty assessment and pre-employment medical exam Pre-employment drug and alcohol screen
