The Grants & Contracts Director of Sponsored Projects in the Swanson School of Engineering (SSOE) Sponsored Projects Office is responsible for directing and managing the sponsored project life cycle, for a portfolio of $40-50M.Management includes supporting the proposal submission process and post-award management of awards following University, sponsor and federal guidelines. This individual will take an active role in setting goals, developing processes and training material, establishing metrics for evaluation of all processes, and hiring and management of office staff. The Grants & Contracts Director of Sponsored Projects reports to the Associate Dean for Research. A close working relationship also exists with the SSOE Administrative Director related to the annual budget process and routine sponsored project reporting. To support these roles, the Grants & Contracts Director of Sponsored Projects must maintain a working knowledge of and ensure compliance with all University, sponsor, federal and state policies, procedures and guidelines. The position requires excellent managerial and workflow process design/implementation skills and a demonstrated ability to lead and facilitate change. The ability to work effectively with senior administrators, faculty, staff and sponsors is necessary. Demonstrated managerial experience in sponsored projects administration in a department or school within a major research university or related academic environment is preferred.

Job Summary

 

Establishes the goals, direction, implementation strategy, and policies of department and/or program for complete oversight of all applicable aspects of grants, contracts, and document management. Develops grant and contract procedures, creates tracking systems for data management, and updates departmental regulation and compliance policies to ensure all activities comply with University, state, and federal regulations. Advises leadership in new initiatives, prepares and administers the annual operating budget, and serves on various University committees.

Physical Effort

This is a sedentary position but may require travel to various campus locations and off-site meetings.
