Carnegie Mellon University Energy Manager - Facilities Management & Campus Services (FMCS) in PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania

Reference #: 2018814 Under the direction of the University Engineer, the Energy Manager is a leader in the development and implementation of a comprehensive and cost-effective Energy Management Program. The manager is a systems integrator, project manager, and force multiplier - analyzing the optimum solutions to reduce energy consumption using technology and people in a cost-effective approach. The Energy Manager also has an outward facing role to help advance and support the university's goal of environmental excellence among higher education institutions. Due to the critical nature of the role, the Energy Manager must be on-site during regular working hours, major projects and emergency events.

Job Functions/Core responsibilities: Leader for Green Practices participating in the development and implementation of a comprehensive and cost-effective Energy Management Program. Manages university's utility tracking and billing tool - EnergyCAP with responsibility for reporting functions. Analysis of the complex campus infrastructure and mechanical building systems towards identifying projects to achieve energy savings while avoiding future capital renewal expenses, reducing operating costs and enhancing required service capacities. Lead projects from requirements definition through deployment. To coordinate internal and external resources, ensuring projects remain within scope, schedule, and defined budgets. Establish and maintain relationships with appropriate stakeholders. Produces monthly energy consumption/cost reporting and forecasting and prepare annual reports which highlight quantitative improvements and lessons learned from completed projects. Active member of team that manages monthly bill paying and utility invoice oversight. Co-manages data historian (OSI Soft) for data collection and visualization. Co-manages university's Fault Detection and Diagnostics contract with responsibility for performance reporting and quantification. Assist in the development of energy management standards and guidelines for operations, design, and construction to drive future efficiency through written policies and procedures Analyzes meter data and events provided by various head end systems Building Automation, OSI Soft, EnergyCAP to identify trends, abnormal operating characteristics, and develop corrective actions. Coordinates with staff to ensure reliable, efficient and cost-effective operations of the steam/condensate distribution, chiller plants/chilled water distribution systems, and building systems. Promote training and awareness to encourage best practices and behaviors. Strengthen capital project commissioning to sustain energy efficient building performance and transition from design through construction to operations. Work with the university's Sustainability Initiative and Pittsburgh advocacy groups to help advance and support the university's goal to become a leader in environmental excellence among higher education institutions. Respond promptly by phone or in person as appropriate to emergency situations and therefore must be available 24/7 or as required

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree - preferably in engineering, business, management or equivalent related field experience desired Ten years of experience in energy management or facilities maintenance and operations preferred Energy Management or Project Management certification Professional certifications in energy management and/or controls certifications, such as Certified Energy Man ger (CEM), Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) or similar certification ASHRAE level I, II, III energy auditing for facilities Demonstrated experience managing energy reporting software Ability to collaborate with colleagues at all levels of the organization regarding a variety of relevant issues Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, goals and objectives

Physical and Mental Requirements: Ability to maintain composure when dealing with difficult situations and/or individuals Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure and with frequent interruptions Ability to pay close attention to detail; keep and maintain accurate and detailed reports and records Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks simultaneously Ability to understand and follow strategic direction from divisional leadership Able to travel across campus for meetings and related work
