UPMC Director of Business Operations, Women's Health in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

This individual is responsible for developing financial and strategic business plans and models for the business unit. The Director will work collaboratively with the Vice President and Senior Administrators to develop and implement strategic plans focused on the growth and development of clinical and academic programs. In addition, the Director will take lead on physician productivity and compensation alignment, as well as budget preparedness and monitoring. The Director is fully accountable for the operation's performance (service, quality, and financial) of the business unit. This position also creates and monitors the operating budget, as well as develops ROI’s on capital expenditures.

The scope of this role includes strategic and business modeling for:

  • Over 250 Physicians and 30 CNMs

  • 112 APPs

  • Over 1800 Staff

  • 107 OP locations

  • Over 10 Hospital ORs and ASCs

Responsibilities:

  • Assist and advise the Chair, VP, and Senior Administrators in the areas of clinical programmatic support, financial coordination, long-range planning, and daily operations.

  • Work with the Chair and VP and all Division Directors and Senior Administrators to develop the strategic direction and implement short and long-term goals for the Department which may include UPP, WHSL, and UPMC.

  • Develop comprehensive business models and impact analysis. These assessments involve key knowledge of our business and data, including: clinical operations; financial and billing data; access metrics; strategic planning data, profiles, and projections; demographic data; market intelligence; and impact of state and federal policy changes.

  • Monitor the Department's operating statistics and referral patterns to isolate trends and changes, thus ensuring that the Department is maintaining its place and competitive edge, as well as identifying new market areas.

  • Work closely with the access and Marketing teams to maximize opportunities to recoup or newly enter markets with opportunities.

  • Determine the effectiveness of current departmental procedures and plans. Build recommended improvements to our procedures based on best practices and improvement outcomes. Develop and execute communication and training across the department and service line.

  • Develop and implement new systems for efficient and improved utilization of operations.

  • Review, evaluate and provide recommendations on all practice acquisitions and valuations of potential and new faculty physicians/groups.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field / 5 years of experience

  • OR - Bachelor's Degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field / FMR Program Graduate / 3 years of experience

  • OR - Master's Degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field / 3 years of experience

  • OR - Master's Degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field / Fellowship Program Graduate / 3 years of experience

  • Advanced knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws as they pertain to physician BU management, preferred.

  • Knowledge of revenue cycle, physician billing, and contracts, preferred. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 34
