Admissions and Financial Aid Specialist

 

The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) is overseen by the Associate Dean for Student Affairs for the School of Dental Medicine. The office assists pre-doctoral dental students, dental hygiene students, international advanced standing students, and residents by providing services such as student orientation, financial aid assistance, and registration. Students from all programs will graduate as competent health care professionals who treat all patients with respect and compassion, provide care using current best evidence, and will be supported in their learning with state-of-the-art technology. OSA provides students with an environment that supports the school's defined strategic goals within a diverse, welcoming, and supportive community.

 

 

Job Summary

Assists leadership in the creation and maintenance of the admissions and recruitment strategy. Oversees day-to-day office operations, marketing strategy, and promotional communications. Recruits, evaluates, and participates in the selection of candidates for admission.

Essential Functions

The Admissions and Financial Aid Specialist is responsible for attracting and recruiting highly qualified students to the pre-doctoral program of the School of Dental Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh and collaborate in the day-to-day management of the processes surrounding their admission to the programs with oversight from the Admissions Manager. The incumbent will also serve as a bridge to the Financial & Enrollment Services Administrator and assist with financial aid and enrollment processing for graduate and professional students enrolled at the School of Dental Medicine.

Duties include:

  • Designing, presenting, and coordinating admissions events and materials, application collection and review, interview and acceptance processes

  • Coordination of admitted student events; administration of admissions databases and ensuring compliance with required admissions practices and regulations

  • Collaborating on financial aid collection and processing, and student enrollment and credentialing

The incumbent continuously monitors, analyzes and recommends improvements to recruiting strategies and admissions processes and serves as partner and advisor to the associated admissions committees. The incumbent works with the Admissions Manager and serves as a liaison with prospective and current students. The Financial & Enrollment Services Administrator and Associate Dean for Student Affairs provide additional secondary oversight. Job duty focus will fluctuate throughout the academic year based on needs of areas within the department.

 

Physical Effort

This position is not sedentary and does require a lot of walking, involving delivering materials to faculty, staff, students and other various departments in the school and across campus, at meetings, and elsewhere. Some travel is required locally and nationally.
