This may be your chance to join HORIBA's Life Science Business Development Group as an Applications Scientist as we grow our team and our business.In this role, theLife Science Applications Scientist will work in close collaboration with customers to demonstrate product and applications solutions to satisfy their analytical needs. The life science team at HORIBA has a strong focus on the pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and cosmetics industries, but also collaborates closely with academia to ensure that we maintain the highest level of scientific excellence and optimized application solutions. You must be curious enough to fully understand a customer's application and their analytical need, creative enough to propose appropriate solutions, and have the scientific experience to prove your solution will work. As part of HORIBA's Life Science Business development group you will also be part of new solutions, including applications development, and new product development. You will be expected to travel, visiting customers for product demonstrations and training, as well as to deliver seminars at scientific conferences.Responsibilities: * Provide application support for customers * Attend and when required lead meetings with customers both in person at HORIBA or the customer facility, or remote. * Provide applications development for non-routine measurements in support of customers as well as new products and business development teams * Perform sample handling, measurements, and data analysis, including chemometrics and model generation. * Design experiments to test hypotheses or demonstrate feasibility of a new application, or provide proof of concept to a customer * Create supporting documents such as applications notes, technical notes, training material, and support creation of new marketing material. * Attend and provide in-person and virtual (i.e. webinar) presentations at key international conferences, sales meetings. * Provide installation and training support for customers. * Perform demonstrations and user training in the field. Skills/Experience Required: * The ideal candidate should have a research background that is consistent with the mentality of developing good experimental methods and hypotheses using the technique/instrument that is best suited to answer the question(s) at hand, see below for technique experience desired. * For a life science market, the candidate must have an extensive biophysical background, such that the individual is proficient in the characterization of biologically relevant materials. This includes a working knowledge of common biophysical and molecular biology techniques employed for the analysis of bio-related specimens. * Expertise in spectroscopy (fluorescence, Raman, NIR, or FTIR) is strongly preferred. * Familiarity with a variety of techniques, including Particle Sizing, and Surface Plasmon Resonance Imaging (SPRi) is desirable. * Strong expertise in molecular biology techniques (i.e., mammalian, bacterial, yeast cell culture) is a must. * Knowledge of protein structure and function is a must. * Familiarity with mechanisms for fluorescent labeling of non-fluorescent compounds is desirable. * Comprehensive experience in analytical data analysis, (i.e. coupling analytical instrumentation with data analysis to derive answers) is a must. * Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail. * Strong interpersonal skills are a must as the successful candidate will be required to conduct and lead meetings with high level industrial scientists and managers to understand their needs and propose actions and solutions. * Experience with chemometricTo view the full job description, click here>
