Indian Health Service Respiratory Therapist in Phoenix, Arizona

Summary This position serves as a Respiratory Therapist at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center, in Phoenix Arizona. Incumbent is responsible for providing Respiratory Care services to adult, pediatric and neonatal patients as prescribed by the medical provider. Responsible for providing respiratory care in both inpatient and/or outpatient settings independently, and will work rotating schedules, including days, nights, weekends and holidays. Responsibilities Serve as a Respiratory Therapist, responsible for the administration of a wide variety of complex and exacting procedures to patients of all ages, including acute and critical care. Complete the assessment through direct contact, chart review, and other means as appropriate and share the information with healthcare team members. Obtain medical, surgical, and family history. Obtain social, behavioral, and occupational history, and other historical information incident to the purpose of the current complaint. Inspect the chest and extremities to detect deformation, cyanosis, edema, clubbing, and other anomalies. Measure vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate). Evaluate patient breathing effort, ventilatory pattern, and use of accessory muscles. Measure and document oxygen saturation with oximetry under all appropriate conditions (with or without oxygen at rest and during sleep, ambulation, and exercise). Establish and maintain manual and/or mechanical ventilation for critical newborn, pediatric, and adult patients using a variety of pressure and volume ventilators/devices. Perform diagnostic testing for patients requiring Forced Vital Capacity (FVC), Slow VitalCapacity (SVC), Lung Volumes (FRC), Body Plethysmography, and diffusing capacities(DLCO). Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume or other supporting documents must demonstrate that you meet at least one of the following minimum qualifications: GS-09: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Performing respiratory modalities in the critical care environment to include neonatal, pediatric, and adult populations; performing advanced airway management to include artificial airways and ventilation (such as manual ventilation, tracheostomy, endotracheal tube care, Bipap/Cpap management, and/or mechanical ventilation); consulting with physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding complex respiratory care to develop patient care plans to provide favorable patient outcomes; and evaluating the efficacies of therapeutic modalities. OR A completed at least 2 years (36 semester hours) of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position. OR A combination combination of graduate education beyond the first year (18 semester hours) and specialized experience that, when combined, fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-09 grade level. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit.
