In this critical role, you will work closely with Psychiatric providers in the CHS Mental Health Unit, where many of Maricopa Countys most psychiatrically ill patients are treated.

Job Contributions

  • Works with the psychiatric provider staff and mental health staff to determine which patients need involuntary treatment
  • Observes patients identified as needing involuntary treatment for symptoms of mental illness, including danger to self, danger to others, or symptoms indicating that the patient is persistently or acutely disabled or gravely disabled
  • Completes petition applications for involuntary, court-ordered treatment and coordinates with outpatient teams to initiate the petitioning process
  • Testifies in court to observe patient behaviors
  • Identifies patients who are on a court order for involuntary treatment and makes that information available to provider staff
  • Maintains documentation for all patient contact
  • Assists provider staff in coordinating care with patients outpatient clinic

Working Conditions

  • Must complete a thorough background check
  • Must be able to work inside a jail environment, consisting of working near inmates and other staff and indoors in a confined area handling multiple or complicated tasks
  • Requires accuracy, decision-making, and concentration skills to be vigilant in a teamwork environment
  • Performs a high volume of work under short deadlines or with time pressures to complete frequently changing and unscheduled tasks
  • It may require travel between work locations
  • Teleworking, hybrid schedules, and weekend work may be required
