Responsibilities

The Manager of Business Operations manages the financial analysis, physician compensation reporting and analysis, operational performance monitoring and reporting, and business planning and development processes for the Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI) Department of Neurology.

This position reports to the BNI Chief Operating Officer, is accountable to the BNI Department of Neurology Chair, and works cooperatively with the Department of Neurology Vice Chairs, the Department of Neurology Practice Manager, the BNI Director of Physician Business Practice Operations, and the BNI Finance Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages and provides financial analysis to support clinical and business operations.

  • Manages and provides physician compensation reporting and analysis. Participates in the periodic review and update of the BNI Department of Neurology Physician Compensation Plan.

  • Facilitates business planning and development initiatives, with emphasis on telemedicine and remote monitoring services. Develops and documents BNI business plans in the formats required for leadership and governance approval. Periodically reports on the financial performance of business development initiatives. Periodically assesses if approved business plans have been successfully implemented and are achieving desired outcomes.

  • Manages and provides operational performance reporting and analysis, with emphasis on business practice operations. Leads and facilitates lean six sigma process improvement projects. Develops analytical tools and reports to facilitate improvement in physician business and clinical operations processes. Develops policies and procedures to document standardized business processes.

  • Works cooperatively with the Barrow Neurological Foundation to monitor departmental award funding and to ensure that funding transfers occur in a timely manner. Works cooperatively with Research Administration to monitor departmental extramural award funding and expenditures, to ensure that internal and external funds transfers occur in a timely manner, and to ensure that expense allocation is compliant with federal regulations. Works cooperatively with BNI Academic Affairs to ensure that payments for academic services and allocation of such payments for faculty salary support occur in a timely manner.

  • Promotes a culture of collaboration, integration, open communication, team work, and timely decision making between the BNI Department of Neurology and internal and external partners.

  • Provides financial and operation analysis as needed by the Neurology Chair for the Chair’s BNI governance responsibilities. Participates as indicated in community outreach and community organizations that align with BNI patientpopulations. Represents BNI in philanthropic and charitable fundraising activities and events as indicated.

  • Lead a team of project managers.

Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Education:

  • 3 years financial analysis experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree.

Special Skills Required:

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) to effectively convey complex financial and statistical information to a variety of audiences.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively navigate a matrix organizational structure.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with physicians and researchers.

  • Excellent listening and influencing skills.

  • Proven attention to detail, with strong analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, and time management skills.

  • Demonstrated collaborative management style.

  • Experience with Lean and Six Sigma techniques.

  • Project management skills.

Preferred Experience and Education:

  • Practice management or practice financial analysis background is ideal.

  • Healthcare accounting or financial analysis experience.

  • Master’s degree.

  • Supervisory experience.
