Job Summary Reporting directly to the Associate Director, Event Operations and the Director of Event Services, the Senior Technician is a part time on-call position that is responsible for the setup, operation and load out of event-related audio/visual equipment throughout the Drexel University Main Campus. This position is a primary Event Services contact with student organizations, academic/administrative departments, and external clients during events at the main campus that involves the Drexel University Student Technicians division (D.U.S.T.) of Drexel University Events Services. These events include, but are not limited to: audio/visual support for small - medium sized performance events, meetings, conferences and other special events. As a front-line employee, this position directly interacts with Event Services clients, thus is one of the key staff members responsible for assuring exceptional customer service. This position's performance is critical to the success of events coordinated through the Event Services Department. Drexel University functions academically on a quarterly term basis; as such, the university has classes and events 12 months of the year. The months of September to mid-December and April to mid-June, which encompass the Fall and Spring terms, are the most event-intensive. This is when the position must be most flexible, although events take place in Winter and Summer terms as well. The Senior Technician will work on an as-needed/as-schedule basis, and scheduling will be based on quantity of events and set limits of allotted hours for the position. Essential Functions Training employees on proper set up, operation and load out of technical equipment. Ensure all safety measures are in place involving personnel and equipment. Maintain positive relations with university faculty, staff, students and non-university clients regarding services provided by the D.U.S.T./Event Services Department. Assist in the equipment control function, conducting routine tours of the university buildings and grounds noting and returning D.U.S.T. equipment to proper storerooms. Assist in determining the best equipment to meet the needs of the event. Straighten and organize storerooms and routinely inspect condition of audio/visual equipment; reporting equipment in need of repair to proper personnel. Supervise D.U.S.T. student technician employees in live production situations. Maintain an understanding of technical requirements detailed on D.U.S.T. data sheets (i.e. work orders for event audio/visual production). Safely secure and deliver event-related audio/visual equipment to various locations on campus using authorized university vehicles including all-terrain vehicle and other vehicles as assigned. Collaborate with Event Services Event Managers, students, faculty/staff, off-campus production vendors, and non-university clients as needed. Suggest new or replacement equipment thereby assisting in the efficiency of the department. Assign responsibilities to student employees during events, to best fit their abilities and the needs of the event. Assess student employee performance and assist in training of student staff when directed. Provide feedback to the Associate Director, Event Operations concerning performance of student employees. Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director, Event Operations. Required Qualifications Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED. Minimum of 2 years of experience. Ability to handle technical requirements for small- to medium-sized events independently. Strong commitment to providing exceptional guest service and meeting customer needs. Experience operating a wide range of audio/visual equipment including house and portable lighting systems, various types of p esentation equipment, laptop computers (PC- and Mac-based), portable and fixed projection screens, and various types of analog and digital sound equipment. Ability to delegate tasks and manage small- to medium-sized production events. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong organization and coordination skills; ability to prioritize work and schedule assignments. Ability to analyze and solve problems, investigate and analyze information and to draw appropriate conclusions. Ability to work independently and under limited supervision. Ability to determine talents & abilities of crew present during events for proper assignment and delegation of duties. Ability to work a flexible schedule to work weekday, evening, and weekend events. Ability to work occasional early morning (5:00 - 6:00 am) or late night (Midnight - 1:00 am) schedules to meet event needs, a/v vendor load-ins/load outs, etc. Valid Driver's License. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50lbs. Ability to bend, crouch, stoop.
