General Job Description: This is certified medical technology work performing complex diagnostic laboratory tests in the analysis of human tissue and body fluids in a clinical laboratory. An employee in this class performs a variety of laboratory tests using complex methods in a variety of fields, which include clinical chemistry, microbiology, advanced molecular microbiology, immunology, urinalysis, and hematology. Work includes providing technical guidance and training to lower-level technicians, troubleshooting instrumentation, and testing problems, compiling information, reporting results from analysis/research findings, and recommending process improvements.
This job requires the following:
1. CERTIFICATION:
Certification as one of the following:
Medical Technologist by American Medical Technologists (AMT), or
by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as:
- Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or
Medical Technologist (MT), or
Chemistry ©, or
Hematology (H), or
Microbiology (M) or
Certification by the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA), or
Certification in a related area by Health Education and Welfare (HEW) or equivalent national certifying agency.
AND 2. SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE:
Six (6) months of experience performing diagnostic laboratory tests in the analysis of human tissue and body fluids in a public health clinical laboratory or other clinical laboratory setting.
