The IBC Coordinator is a position within the Office of the Vice President for Research's Compliance and works in the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) office. Responsibilities are to provide assistance and administrative support related to institutional biosafety to ensure that biomedical research is performed in accordance with university approved IBC protocols and federal regulations. The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) Coordinator provides initial administrative review of research protocols involving the use of recombinant DNA, hazardous drugs, infectious agents, and other biohazardous materials. This position requires being comfortable working in a typical compliance unit: fast-paced, team-oriented and collaborative, and being sensitive to the confidential nature of IBC work. Essential functions: The IBC Coordinator is responsible to provide initial administrative review of all IBC protocol applications for completeness and accuracy; Reviews upcoming IBC protocols expiration dates to ensure compliance with federal regulations and university guidelines; Assist IBC Chair and works collaboratively with EHRS Biosafety Group, ULAR, eRA, IACUC and IRB Offices; Prepares, and distributes minutes of IBC meetings; Communicates with IBC members in scheduling meetings, distribution of materials for meeting review, and communication with the Chair in preparation of the meeting agenda; Provides customer service and assist faculty and other researchers about current regulations, standard operating procedures (SOPs), guidelines, policies and procedures related to biosafety and biosecurity at Temple University; Notifies investigators of actions taken by the IBC with respect to their research protocols and follows up on all protocol changes and modifications required by the IBC; Assist with Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) and Flow Facility Hazard Assessment forms evaluation for all IBC reviewable items; Provides training to researchers on IBC policies and the protocol submission process; Other compliance support as required to assist the IBC Assistant Director, Senior IBC Coordinator or OVPR leadership; Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Education & Experience: Bachelor's Degree and minimum f three years of related experience (or equivalent work experience); knowledge of federal/state laws and NIH and CDC policies governing biomedical research. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Required Skills & Abilities: *Familiarity with biomedical research protocols, and IBC procedures. *Working knowledge of medical terminology. *Fluency and comfort working with computers, online systems, and working in a hybrid environment. *Demonstrated computer skills, and proficient with MS Word and MS Excel or comparable software packages. *Demonstrated ability to maintain databases, and to assist with updating content on departmental web sites. *Demonstrated organizational, prioritization and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to multi-task and strong attention to detail. *Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. *Excellent written and verbal communication skills. *Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, along with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse constituent population. Preferred: *Experience in biomedical science, biology, or relevant field. *Prior knowledge of IBC databases. This position requires a background check. This position is temporarily assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
