AgustaWestland Philadelphia Corporation Flight Controls System Safety Engineer III in PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania

*Summary of Position: *

The role is within AW609 Flight Control Systems team within the Engineering Directorate. The purpose of the role is to carry out System Safety Engineering activities on rotorcraft flight control systems within scope of US Product Base.

  • Conduct Flight Control System safety process in accordance with ARP4761. Produce Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Design Assessments (DA), and System Safety Assessments (SSA) for FCS System that includes complex hardware and software.
  • Conduct fault tree analysis
  • Identify safety mitigation design, maintenance, and inspection requirements
  • Support the derivation, verification, and validation of safety derived requirements
  • Incorporate supplier safety assessments into company FCS safety documents
  • Interface with suppliers to collaborate on complex safety topics including design and assessment methodologies and ensure high quality safety data is supplied
  • Ensure Leonardo Helicopter best practices for safety are followed
  • Interface with DERs, FAA and other certification authorities on FCS Safety related topics
  • Collaborate with the cross-geography FCS team       
  • *Essential Duties and Responsibilities: *

* *

1.Conduct safety analysis in support of aircraft design, development and, certification on US products (to include AW609, AW119, AW139).  Prepare associated documentation.  

2.Communicate and coordinate with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the defined hazard classifications are accepted.  Develop and monitor metrics and report status to leadership.

3.Track and coordinate validation of safety assumptions and collection of artifacts.  

4.Interface with FAA, DERs, and/or other regulatory agencies to justify assessments and aircraft design in the context of safety.

5.Support and coordinate with supply chain management/procurement on vendor activities and deliverables.

Qualifications for Position:

*          A. Education*

Bachelor of Science in a relevant engineering discipline such as Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

*          B. Experience*

  1. 5+ years of professional experience in a system safety role within aerospace using ARP-4761 or NASA CSRM.
  2. Two + years of experience participating in commercial aircraft certification programs.
  3. Required Technical Skills:
  • Experience applying Systems Engineering standards ARP-4754, ARP-4761 or NASA CSRM
  • Experience conducting Fault Tree Analysis with tools such as Isograph Reliability Workbench 
  • Experience interfacing with external suppliers in the context of safety analysis
  • Knowledge of aerospace standards DO-160, DO-178, DO-254. 
  • Experience with FAA Certification Specifications FAR Part 25 and Part 29
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the full Systems Engineering life-cycle
  • Basic knowledge of aircraft flight controls
