Position Overview:
The Donor Relations Director (DRD) plays an integral role in the success of the Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware Division’s fund development efforts, specifically in major gift strategies and communication with a specific portfolio of donors and prospects. In this role, the DRD will cultivate, solicit, steward, and upgrade major gift prospects and donors, acting as the primary contact between The Army and the portfolio.
Responsibilities
The DRD: (1.) establishes, creates, and maintains a strategic communications plan to educate, cultivate and solicit gifts from a caseload of major donors each fiscal year; (2.) manages a caseload of 100-150 major donors, following the prescribed communications plan that is specific to each donor; (3.) establishes and works to meet annual goals for each major donor and for the major gifts program each year; (4,) leads in one-to-one solicitation, gift acknowledgement and stewardship communicationr traveling as necessary, establishing and maintaining excellent donor relations, and providing written proposals to major gift prospects as needed; (5.) works in close conjunction with other fund development officers, ensuring collaboration between direct mail, foundation, corporate, planned and other major gift and campaign efforts; (6.) works in close collaboration with local corps officers and program directors, representing local Army resource development needs based on the residence of prospective donors; and (7.) helps shape overall strategies to continually increase major gifts revenue and program growth with an emphasis on cross-training and department collaboration.
Qualifications
Must have an understanding and appreciation for and support of The Salvation Armyis mission.
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five years of experience in a non-profit fundraising role with a proven record of major gifts success.
Effective interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral communication abilities.
Proven expertise in building and maintaining positive relationships with diverse individuals.
The selected individual should enjoy problem solving and should exude energy and initiative. A high level of comfort with direct donor interaction, including discussions of personal and family finances and asking for money is a must.
Team player.
Able to work independently in a complex environment. Must be very organized and able to effectively manage multiple projects and conflicting priorities.
Demonstrated ability to set and achieve goals as well as meet deadlines.
Willingness to travel regularly. Valid Driver's License and access to a vehicle required.
Proficiency in Word and Excel, as well as experience with donor tracking and/or database software.
Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks prior to employment: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check. Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check along with renewals every five years.
