Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Education: Masters Degree in education, higher education, disability services or related field required. AND Experience: Prefered background includes experience working with disability services in higher education, working with students with varying disabilities. Position requires understanding discrimination law for students with disabilities as well as interpreting medical and psychological documentation for eligibility of services. Case management, supporting faculty, advising students, and working withg families are core elements of the Directorrsquo;s role. Ability to interpreting professional and medical provider documentation for eligibility, including psychological, psycho-educational, neuro-psychological reports, as well as provider documentation for medical diagnosis. Knowledge and skills for addressing learning, physical, and psychiatric disabilities in a competitive college environment. Knowledge of best practices in the field and of the legal landscape to make, and articulate,policies in a successful manner. Experience in developing policies for the University is essential. Knowledge of the relevant laws affecting persons with disabilities in higher education (Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Fair Housing Act). Keeps current on changes to federal laws that affect students in higher education. Ability to problem solve and strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records and information. Excellent communication skills needed to work with University partners, families and students. Job Summary The Director of Student Accessibility Services is responsible for the overall operation and management of the Universityrsquo;s compliance and program respon ibilities, with respect to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (1973), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA, 1990), and the Fair Housing Act, for students with disabilities. This position requires knowledge of disability discrimination laws and provides overall leadership, planning, and supervision for the support services to ensure compliance in accordance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations. The Director manages the entire accommodation process and develops and implements respective policy, sets office goals and works closely with faculty and students to ensure compliance with respective laws. The Director works with multiple student populations, including students with physical and medical disabilities, psychological disabilities, and learning disabilities. The Director provides leadership in the development and implementation of services, initiatives and policies that ensure meaningful University access for qualified students with documented disabilities. Essential Functions Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson. Manages the essential responsibilities and compliance with the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, with respect to accommodations for students with disabilities in higher education. Minimizes risk management for the University, with respect to disability services. Manages a high caseload of students who are eligible for accommodations in University programs and services. Partners with Academic Services to assist with retention and best academic practices for students with disabilties. Interpreting professional and medical provider documentation for eligibility, including psychological, psycho-educational, neuro-psychological reports, as well as provider documentation for medical diagnosis. Establishes and implements policy and provides guidance on University-wide policies that ensure compliance with respective disability related laws (ADA, Service Animals and ESArsquo;s, Housing protocolhellip;). Works with University legal councel to ensure compliance with the laws, assessing needs and proposing campus response and policy as necessary. Remains up to date on recent disability case law by researching and analyzing federal and state laws related to individuals with disabilities in higher education. Supervises services and staff to ensure exam accommodation integrity, assistive technology and other office accommodations are within compliance and are effective. Identifies barriers to accessibility and recommends remedial action so that all college personnel comply with federal and state accessibility requirements. Provides consultation and develops and provides training to faculty regarding campus accessibility services and specific needs of students with disabilities, with particular emphasis on training faculty in inclusive course design, effective implementation of academic accommodations, and notable trends. Manages office budget with respect to compliance and best practices within the current higher education environment for students with disabilities. Manages assessment information with respect to office services and makes recommendations for new initiatives. Oversees and manages data collection and management for students registered with Accessibility Services and provides data and statistical reporting, upon request.
