Job Description Summary

The Research Support Specialist will provide essential support for clinical trials and research studies at the Center for Clinical and Translational Research. This role includes Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) tasks, grant submission support, creation of simple REDCap databases for pilot studies, laboratory support tasks, and sample pre-processing. The incumbent will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and facilitate smooth research operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) Tasks – 30%

  • Assist in coordinating and managing clinical trials and research studies in compliance with study protocols and regulatory requirements.

  • Help recruit, screen, and enroll study participants; obtain informed consent.

  • Schedule and conduct study visits, perform study-related procedures, and collect data.

  • Maintain accurate and complete source documents and case report forms.

  • Monitor participants for adverse events and report them according to protocol and regulatory guidelines.

  • Liaise with study sponsors, monitors, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth study operations.

Clinical Research Data Management Tasks – 35%

  • Develop, design and customize REDCap forms or databases or similar data management systems to support simple clinical research projects.

  • Perform regular quality checks and data validation to maintain data integrity.

  • Ensure all data management activities within REDCap comply with regulatory guidelines.

  • Maintain detailed documentation of data management procedures and modifications within REDCap.

  • Generate and distribute customized reports within SmartSheets dashboards to track performance or projects within CCTR.

Grants Submission Support – 20%

  • Assist faculty and researchers in preparing and submitting grant applications.

  • Ensure all components of the grant submission are complete and adhere to sponsor guidelines and institutional policies.

  • Coordinate with internal departments and external agencies to gather necessary documentation and approvals.

  • Track and monitor the status of submitted grants and provide updates to faculty and research teams.

Laboratory Support – 5%

  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies.

  • Conduct routine laboratory procedures and experiments as directed by research protocols.

  • Ensure accurate data collection and documentation of laboratory activities.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment in compliance with safety regulations.

  • Support researchers in the collection, processing, and analysis of biological samples.

  • Serve as back-up for sample pre-processing, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and storage of samples.

Collaboration and Communication – 5%

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with faculty, researchers, and administrative staff.

  • Facilitate open and effective communication between research teams, funding agencies, and institutional offices.

  • Actively participate in team meetings and contribute to process improvements and best practices.

Other duties as assigned – 5%

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., life sciences, public health, research administration) and 2-3 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

  • Some experience in clinical research coordination, research administration, or a related area is preferred but not required.

  • Familiarity with grant submission processes and budgeting principles is a plus.

  • Proficiency in using REDCap, SmartSheets or similar data management systems is preferred.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in work.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
