Job Title: Senior Engineering Manager – Small Engines

Salary: £90,100 per annum + dependent upon experience

Location: Peterborough, Cambridgeshire

About IPSD

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat® and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Job Summary

In this role you will be responsible for setting the long-term technical product development strategy for our small engines range 0.5L to 2.2L, while ensuring deliverables in the short term are met to achieve this. This means directing the engineering function supporting new product introduction programmes, current product health projects, cost reduction projects, supplier validation and ensuring product regulatory compliance. You will be responsible for creating and managing a multi-year research and development and engineering maintenance budget, ensuring resources are developed, allocated and prioritised. You will contribute directly on technical matters and support your small global team of engineering leaders as they do the same. You will be accountable for the technical sign-off of the small engines range, including safety, compliance, and performance. This role is a critical part of the small engines’ leadership team, and it will challenge you, but is also very rewarding as you be able to directly see how your efforts support our customers, our business, and our teams.

What You Will Do

  • Define and manage the long-term technical product development strategy for small engines

  • Direct the engineering function supporting new product introduction programmes, current product health projects, cost reduction projects, supplier validation and product regulatory compliance

  • Accountable for all aspects of technical and engineering development of the small engines range

  • Create and manage a multi-year research and development and engineering maintenance budget

  • Ensure engineering resources are developed, allocated and prioritised to support the small engines business

  • Manage technical issues and matters, either directly, or through your team of engineering leaders

  • Be an active member of the small engines leadership team, contributing to the broader context and supporting the success of the small engines business

  • Develops, refines, and communicates tactical plans for own responsibilities

  • Provides the right level of detail as input for strategic plan development, and owns the technical product development strategy

  • Demonstrates the value and necessity of linking tactical plans to overall strategic plan

  • Ensures attention to the detail and dependencies of existing departmental plans

  • Plans for allocation of resources in line with unit goals, technical and business objectives

  • Ensures the planning process is integrated with the overall business plan
