Basic Job Functions: Provide technical and coordination leadership within each project team to meet objectives. Work with Development and Sustaining Engineering to develop robust manufacturing processes through continuous improvement, process changes/upgrades, and new systems. Drive equipment projects to meet objectives, schedule, and budget. Equipment design efforts include definition of system requirements/specifications, providing input into system design, and evaluating equipment solution proposals. Interact and have oversight of vendors from project start through delivery of systems to production hand off that meets project and plant objectives. Collaborate with global team to replicate projects into and from multinational locations. Identify, design, and implement continuous improvements that contribute to the achievement of throughput, yield, and product performance goals. Experience in project management and knowledge in mechanical, electrical, and/or control systems is highly desired for this position. Coordinate with OEMs and internal program managers to synchronize equipment project schedules, provide OEMs guidance on mechanical, electrical and control systems to ensure equipment meets First Solar specification and maintain/ update project risk registers and develop/ execute risk burn-down plans. Education/Experience: BS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation MS Technical/Engineering area preferred. At least 5 years of mechanical systems design and manufacturing Demonstrated success in new Equipment/Process and product development. Project management experience, including projects containing several engineering disciplines. Full life-cycle experience of process tools design (concept, prototype, launch, production qualification and release) Experienced in managing OEM equipment and parts suppliers. Preferred experience in developing/designing Electro/Mechanical/Robotic/Vision automation systems. Preferred experience with thermal, APCVD/PVD/thin film deposition systems, vacuum systems, glass processing, and/or laser systems Well-developed technical skills and ability to learn and master new engineering fields. Preferred understanding of manufacturing control systems such as SPC, Six Sigma, FMEAs, etc. Knowledge of Statistical software for data analysis such as JMP preferred. Required Skills/Competencies: Excellent problem-solving skills, knowledge of structured Problem-Solving Methods (such as DMAIC) Demonstrates Proficiency in writing manufacturing documentation. Demonstrates capability to train operators, technicians, and new engineers. Ability to work autonomously to achieve goals. Excellent oral and written communications skills, articulate and experienced communicator with international teams. Experience in managing OEM equipment and parts suppliers. Demonstrated Ability to Project Manage, coordinate resources, organize and plan to meet deadlines. Experience with fully automated production equipment. AutoCAD for Plant Layouts, Solid-Works/ Inventor basic skills Demonstrated high mechanical aptitude. Automation application knowledge a plus. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of applications. Essential Responsibilities: Maintains effective communications levels and collaborates within the organization. Designs, develops, and oversees fabrication and assembly of parts and equipment. Interfaces and manage vendor resources to provide a development plan and enable timely implementation of the project goals. Works alongside other engineering and process development groups to enable prominent solar device manufacturing capabilities. Evaluations and Selections of Technical solutions. Participates in the development and integration efforts of diverse tool platforms
