Athletic Trainer

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Position will provide coverage of athletic events and assess athletes at designated schools and/or athletic functions. Evaluates physical condition and advises and treats athletes for participation in athletic events. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on assigned unit.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Minimum Bachelors Degree in athletic training from approved institution.

NATA certification or eligible; state of Ohio Athletic Training Licensure.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work requires frequent walking, standing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, bending, and handling. Exert force of 20-50 lbs. occasionally, 10-15 lbs. Frequently or up to 10 lbs. constantly.

Working under extreme adverse weather conditions for extended periods of time.

Key Job Duties, Responsibilities and Project

Administers routine and corrective exercises.

Massages body parts which may be strained or bruised.

Renders first aid.

Wrapping and taping ankles fingers wrists, etc.

Treats acute and chronic minor injuries to maintain athlete’s performance.

Performs on the field triage and refers to physician as appropriate.

Maintains and orders sports medicine supplies.

Plans and implements special events: e.g. coaches clinics, yearly physicals, road races, etc.

Adheres to the standards and policies of the Corporate Responsibility Program, including the duty to comply with applicable laws and regulations, and reporting to designated Manager (or employer hotline) any suspected unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful acts or practices.

Embraces Standards of Behavior in order to provide and promote excellent customer service for both internal and external customers. Holds self and others accountable for behaviors that promote service.

Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the student athlete.

Adheres to all standards and policies regarding safety/patient safety initiatives.

Provides service to all age groups.

Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on assigned unit.

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span by completing continuing education program.

Interprets information need to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific need:

Neonate Pediatric Adolescent Adult Geriatric

Is responsible for all other duties as assigned.

Indicates Non-Essential job functions.
