Administers, maintains, develops and implements policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of Microsoft SQL Server databases. Implements data models and database designs, data access and table maintenance codes; resolves database performance issues, database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues. Work with senior members of the team on continuous improvement of the environment. Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in IT or related discipline. Degrees from other disciplines will be acceptable for candidates with strong qualifications in terms of subject matter expertise. Certification in Microsoft SQL Server administration is preferred but not mandatory. 1 to 3 years of relevant work experience administering SQL Server environments. Required Skills/Competencies: Minimum 1 - 3 years of work experience as a Database Administrator managing Microsoft SQL Server. Experience with SQL Server version 2016, 2019 and higher is preferred. Exposure to database performance factors, monitoring tools and tuning procedures. Debugging Stored procedures and triggers Knowledge of the best practices for performance monitoring, and tuning. Knowledge of high availability and disaster recovery concepts that includes log shipping, data replication, and backup/restore technologies used to ensure RPO and RTO SLAs. Understanding of productivity factors and ability to understand impact of problem on overall database performance. Knowledge of fault detection and resolution processes. Skillful in one or more programming languages and database design techniques. Ability to define physical and logical data structures. Working knowledge and/or prior experience in Cloud offerings (SaaS, IaaS, PasS) a plus. Proficiency in using Microsoft office 365 products which includes but not limited to Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to communicate in written, verbal, digital, and formal presentations. Willingness and aptitude to learn new technologies in the areas of database and application system administration. Thorough knowledge of SDLC, IT Change Control, incident management and problem investigation processes. Ability to quickly learn new technologies and willingness to perform tasks of application system administration. Exposure to .NET based applications and Power Shell scripting is a strong plus. Ability to perform tasks with minimum supervision. Essential Responsibilities: Install SQL Server software and configure SQL instances to support various needs that includes stand alone, and highly available cluster environments. Schedule and perform periodic maintenance activities that includes OS and SQL level patching that ensures security and stability of the database environments. Oversee day-to-day database backup, clustering, mirroring, replication, and failover. Monitor database systems and platforms to ensure maximum production database uptime and optimal performance using available tools. Maintain database schemes, tables, procedures, and permissions and promote changes in test and production environments. Refresh non-production databases on a scheduled and/or OnDemand basis. Set up data sharing and disk partitioning and verify data integrity. Execute database utilities and oversee automated reporting. Learn other areas of administration that includes administering packaged applications and custom developed applications deployed on the cloud and on-premises. Restore and recover corrupted databases.
