As a US International Senior Tax Manager, you will be responsible for US tax planning related to Caterpillar’s non-US subsidiaries, particularly related to cash management strategy (including dividend/loan analysis), reorganizations/M&A, and Subchapter C impacts. The position is part of a planning team that works with business partners within and outside the Global Tax department in providing US tax advice and solutions for complex projects and/or initiatives while balancing strategic goals, appropriate understanding of detail, and the ability to execute.

What You Will Do:

  • Leads the cash management strategy for Global Tax, including providing insights and recommendations related to intercompany dividends, loans, as well as identifying other opportunities, such as legal entity transactions, to optimize cash positions. This includes being the primary contact with senior Caterpillar Treasury leadership and understanding impacts of various interconnected elements.

  • Provides specific and actionable guidance on US tax impacts involved in internal structural and transactional planning, proactively identifies opportunities, can develop plans and identify impacts independently, and implements plans to optimize enterprise results leveraging Subchapter C and US international tax areas. Leads multi-functional teams to achieve project goals.

  • Reviews material US international tax positions and results, including Subpart F, GILTI, FDII, Subchapter C, and/or foreign tax credit limitation, to ensure planning, business projects, and/or legislative changes have been accurately incorporated into provision and compliance reporting.

  • Leads responses to government inquiries on complex US international topics, develops or coaches staff and tax managers on documentation, and guides resolution in consideration of enterprise impact.

  • Monitors, analyzes, and assesses impact of proposed legislation by applying Caterpillar facts.

What You Have:

  • Education/Experience: Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or business related degree and 7+ years of progressively responsible tax related experience, including tax planning, dividends, Subpart F, Subchapter C, developing transaction plans, and quantifying tax impacts.

  • Tax Management : Strong knowledge of US international tax provisions and how they interact together with the ability to advise, develop policies and controls, and monitor tax reporting requirements and case law. Also requires an understanding of compliance processes, accounting for income taxes, and data sources.

  • Producing Results: Ensures time, resources, and actions are focused on priorities and can ensure needed work completed timely with a big picture view of the tax lifecycle. Guides staff and tax managers to complete analysis at the appropriate level needed.

  • Influencing through Expertise: Leads teams to effectively achieve objectives, which includes both intra-department and multi-functional teams. Analyzes gaps within organization and provides appropriate solutions while sharing expertise on critical issues.

  • Problem Solving: Ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations. Analyzes and synthesizes information and devises alternative resolution strategies by applying technical rules to Caterpillar facts.

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Expertise in foreign tax credit limitation calculation, GILTI, FDII, BEAT, and other US international provisions, including modeling

  • Demonstrate high levels of initiative, good judgment, and superior communication skills

  • Collaborative and team-oriented personality with the ability to build and foster relationships throughout the organization

  • Understanding of accounting and business processes

  • Knowledge of M365
