Position Title : Senior Machinist - 3 Reports To:General Manager – McSwain

Status: Full Time

Summary of the Job: T he primary responsibilities of Senior Machinist will be to play a vital role in the production of precision samples and litigation exemplars for the forensics testing laboratory. Under the guidance of management and of the general manager, you will utilize advanced machining techniques and equipment to produce precision test samples and fixtures. A strong understanding of machining, problem-solving, and demonstrate the ability to mentor the engineering staff on the best approaches to prepare the samples and design of exemplars is needed. Our machine shop is a very unique entity. We provide machining related to testing of failed components. This requires unique manufacturing fixtures, design, and exemplars for litigation in forensics investigations.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Machine Setup and Operation including manual and CNC machining tools such as various saws, drills, Water Jet, CNC Mill, CNC Lathe, Wire EDM to generate samples and modify fixtures.

  • Interpret and offer support for complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine the most efficient machining processes and procedures.

  • Work directly with clients for 3rdparty inspections.

  • Develop and implement complex machining programs for CNC machines, ensuring optimal tool paths, cutting speeds, and feeds with supervisor approvals.

  • Support and mentor the engineering staff, providing guidance on machining techniques, troubleshooting, and quality control measures.

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.

  • Inspect samples and fixtures after machining to ensure they meet quality needs.

  • Report any issues to the supervisor for timely repairs.

  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.

  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot issues and make necessary adjustments to machining processes.

  • Participate in safety training programs and adhere to all safety protocols and procedures in the test lab.

  • Seek guidance and actively participate in training opportunities to develop machining skills.

  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and compliant with laboratory safety standards.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Required Education/Experience:

  • High School Graduate

  • 8-15 years’ experience in a machine shop environment

    Necessary Skills:

  • Problem-solving skills

  • Good verbal and written communication skills; strong organizational skills

  • Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), maintain Lab ISO and process Safety procedures.
