THE POSITION

Do you have a passion for working with horses and jockeys and desire to play a vital role in the thrilling realm of horse racing? The Pennsylvania Horse Racing Commission is offering an opportunity for you. The Office of Thoroughbred Horse Racing is in search of a committed individual with a background in criminal investigations to take on the role of Special Investigator 1 at Presque Isle Downs Racetrack. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, your duties will include conducting inquiries into unlawful activities and breaches of Pennsylvania racing regulations, administrative regulations, substance abuse, and equine post-race samples. Acting on behalf of the Race Track Manager of the Commission Office, you will gather and organize investigative information, present testimony, and act as the prosecutor for the Commission in Stewards hearings. You will also be responsible for interviewing individuals with prior arrests, convictions, or racing suspensions from other state racing facilities, conducting drug and alcohol tests, and gathering evidence/samples during investigations. Additionally, you will oversee the search of racing facility areas, obtain authorization for the release of confidential information, collect and secure samples, conduct fingerprinting, photograph applicants, verify licensee eligibility, and research criminal histories of applicants. Furthermore, it is essential that you uphold racing regulations by thoroughly investigating and verifying the credentials of all Commission of Racing applicants.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment

  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience in criminal investigation work and a bachelor's degree; or

  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

    Post Employment Requirement:

  • A Commission Employee License is required for this position or will be obtained once hired.
