THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Phoenix is seeking a highly motivated Service Occupations Teacher, Warehouse Operations/Materiel Handling. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Service Occupations Teacher (Warehouse Operations/Material Handling), you will provide vocational instruction in warehouse operations and material handling to inmate students at SCI Phoenix. In this position you will evaluate inmate potential for consideration and placement within the program's curriculum and adapt materials to meet the needs of students. You will provide classroom and shop instruction, assign, and evaluate homework, develop and administer tests, and provide a final evaluation for each enrolled student. You will also monitor inmate behavior, establish classroom rules and procedures, and discipline disruptive students by taking appropriate corrective action and documenting said actions.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment

  • Work hours are 7:45 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Education equivalent to high school graduation and two years wage earning experience beyond the completed apprenticeship period in the specified parenthetical; or

  • If there is no approved apprenticeship period for the specified parenthetical, education equivalent to high school graduation and three years of wage earning experience in the specified parenthetical.

    Special Requirements:

  • Possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Certificate 1 or 2 for the specified parenthetical;or
