THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) is looking for an Information Security Specialist 1 to perform various assignments within the Bureau of Communications and Information Services. This position works on areas of security of the Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN). This requires extensive knowledge and adherence to the CLEAN and Federal Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s (FBI) Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) division’s security policies.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you t ravel throughout the state to assist in conducting on site audits and assistance to agencies requesting accreditation of their network for access to CLEAN/CJIS systems while ensuring agency adherence to the CJIS Security Policy. Examples include firewalls, authentication, encryption, key management, disaster recovery, intrusion detection, virus protection, and Internet access study. You must maintain an extensive knowledge of the CLEAN/FBI CJIS security policies and procedures

You also serve as the alternate point of contact to the FBI CJIS Division ISO, in the absence or at the delegation of the PSP ISO or command staff. You assist in interpreting policy and response relative to security issues. In addition, you respond to a designated alternate or secondary location in response to a catastrophic incident when directed.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5-hour work week

  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday to Friday, with 30-minute lunch.

  • This position is not eligible for telework.

  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $64,959.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Network Specialist 1; or

  • Two years of experience performing technical work in information technology security, network support, or network administration, and an associate’s degree in any information technology field; or

  • A bachelor’s degree in any information technology field .

  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Police within the probationary period and maintain the same for the duration of employment in this job.

  • This particular position also requires possession of a current driver's license which is not under suspension.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
