Vail Resorts Director, Mountain Operations Insights in Pennsylvania

Summary:
The Director of Mountain Operations Insights is instrumental in driving operational advancements at scale across Vail Resorts. This role involves a strategic focus on implementing efficiency programs and operational metrics, ensuring data-driven, sustainable, and scalable solutions. Success requires critical thinking, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to lead and execute initiatives without direct authority. Simplifying complex concepts and communicating them effectively is key, as is engaging enthusiastically with team members across all levels of the organization. As operations grow in complexity, the Director will shape strategies that drive enterprise-wide transformation.
Responsibilities:
Drive Scalable Programs: Lead the sustainment and ongoing implementation of Lift Operations Optimization and parking programs, setting scalable standards and ensuring effective adoption across all resorts.
Plan, deploy, and integrate: new technologies to enhance data accuracy and integrity within operations.
Collaborate with the Data Science team to leverage data in making informed operational decisions.
Monitor and report on operational performance against key metrics, conducting root cause analysis for any issues and proposing solutions. Engage with resort leaders to utilize metrics and communicate performance to enterprise-level stakeholders.
Partner with resort-based leaders to share best practices and support OpEx and CapEx planning and business case development.
Identify, quantify, compare, and execute operational process improvements aimed at enhancing safety, performance, capital utilization, and capacity.
Develop and implement auditing tools to measure efficiency and identify cost reduction opportunities.
Stay informed about industry and technology trends and apply insights to improve operations.
Educate and engage cross-functional teams on the importance of continuous improvement practices.
Manage and communicate improvement opportunities and implementation plans across all levels of the organization.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
5+ years in an Industrial Engineering or related role, with a proven track record of leading process improvement projects from ideation to execution. Strong data analytics skills are critical.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
Advanced degree in Business, Engineering, or Analytics is a plus.
Lean Six Sigma certification preferred
Preferred Experience:
Strong project/program management and organizational skills, with experience in meeting facilitation. Project Management Certification (PMP) is a plus.
Ability to analyze data infrastructure and determine strategic actions across all operational areas.
Exceptional critical thinking, storytelling and communication skills, high emotional intelligence, and the ability to work autonomously.
Familiarity with continuous improvement tools and methodologies (e.g., Lean, Root Cause Analysis, Value Stream Mapping, SPC).
Ability to develop standard operating procedures and training materials.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with BI tools like Tableau and process simulation software is preferred.
The expected Total Compensation for this role is 134,706-173,127 + bonus + equity. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
