VCA Animal Hospitals Assistant Hospital Manager in Pembroke Pines, Florida

The Assistant Hospital Manager is a full-time permanent position. The successful candidate will be required to work day shifts, evening shifts, weekend shifts (Saturday & Sunday) on rotation, and rotate being on call.. This position reports directly to the Hospital Manager.

Responsibilities

As a key player in a team environment, the Assistant Hospital Manager is responsible for the following:

Overseeing the workflow of our receptionists, patient care managers and team medicine assistants. Regular “on the floor” assessments of the entire team, to ensure a high level of client service is being delivered at all times Establishing and maintains positive and cooperative relationships with all employees; Projects a positive clinic image and follows clinic policies and procedures at all times. Produce the schedule for all teams on a monthly basis to ensure appropriate shift coverage, while managing hours to budget. Includes STAT holiday coverage, approving vacation requests, and on-call rotation. An active role in recruiting team members, including telephone and in person interviews Provide training and coaching to new hires and existing staff Addressing client concerns and complaints The Assistant Hospital Manager participates in a rotation of the on-call phone. Duties include:

Managing sick calls from staff in a professional and confidential manner, including;

Calling in additional support staff when needed ; Re-allocating staff between departments to account for varying caseloads; and, Coming in to cover shifts, if needed. Fairly assigning staff to go home is shifts are overstaffed for the amount of work.

TECHNICIAN

Over seeing flow of appointments to ensure things flow smoothly. Manage hospitalized patients and daily treatments. Assist is sedation/anesthetic procedures. Manage medication/vaccine/supplements inventory and handle majority of ordering.

RECEPTION

Greeting clients in a professional manner upon arrival or over the telephone and addresses their requests; Ensuring clients’ needs are fully met at all times and coordinates with other staff to achieve this; Handling emergency situations by following established clinic procedures in referring clients for immediate treatment and attempt to reassure distressed clients; Providing information to clients regarding food, retail items, general medications, and, costs, in consultation with the DVM or Veterinary Technician as needed; Promoting specialty products, merchandise, and, programs; Interacting with clients and patients showing genuine interest, concern, and, empathy, and, helps clients cope with their animal’s health condition, euthanasia, or, pet loss in a compassionate manner; and, ADMINISTRATION

Performing daily opening and closing duties;

Accurately records data manually and electronically while ensuring confidentiality;

Communicating between departments and teams to ensure that directions and any needed information is given to clients;

Managing client accounts receivable and reporting to management

Following cash handling policies (balancing, accepting payment, processing credit/ debit) as directed; and,

Other projects, as required and assigned.

Qualifications

Required

Supervisory or management experience. Fluent in English (Reading, Writing and Oral) Able to work in shift including days, evenings and weekends Flexible schedule
