PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENT MISSION AND VALUES:

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

The Public Safety Officer Level II is under the direct supervision of the Public Safety Officer Level III or IV. The Public Safety Officer Level II patrols is assigned areas of the campus to include but not limited to offices, buildings and/or parking areas and reports via telephone or radio. The Public Safety Officer Level II takes action to protect persons, property, prevents fires, theft, vandalism, disorder and damage to college property. The Senior Public Safety Officer Level II on duty may be required to serve as the Officer in Charge of the shift in the absence of the Public Safety Officer Level III or IV. Below are the minimum responsibilities of the Officer in Charge.

OVERALL PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:

The most important overall responsibility of all RCBC employees is to provide service in a pleasant, helpful, and effective manner to our students, members of the college community and the public.

INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS:

Accepts responsibility for the timely preparation of student outcomes assessment efforts of the faculty in planning, collecting data, and reporting dates as they relate to course outcomes, program outcomes, general education outcomes, and developmental program outcomes. Actively participates in setting annual division goals and objectives, completing OIR reporting forms, collecting data, analyzing data, and preparing a report using guidelines established by OIR.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend, and complete to standard, all assigned departmental training.

  • Be able to work in a paramilitary structure with a well-defined chain of command.

  • Arrive on time and properly attired for assigned shifts.

  • Be available to work multiple shifts at multiple campuses.

  • Record and report information concerning complaints and refer it to Supervisor.

  • Issues traffic tickets and/or warnings for violations of traffic/parking regulations and policies.

  • Patrols corridors, parking areas and roadways. Directs traffic as assigned.

  • Assist college population with jumpstarting, vehicle unlocking and personal escorts to vehicles as assigned.

  • Provides emergency medical treatment. (To level of certification.)

  • Be able to complete reports of incidents and fill out work related forms.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Work indoors and outdoors, sometime in extreme weather conditions and temperature.

  • Must be able to spend extended periods standing, walking and climbing stairs. Must be able to maintain a vigorous working pace.

  • Answer telephones and communicate using portable radios and base station radios in compliance with department and FCC standards.

  • Assist persons on campus.

  • Operate department identification card equipment, issue ID cards and parking stickers.

  • Have good interpersonal communications skills, be able to work as a team member, and have solid computer and keyboarding skills.

  • Keep work related topics confidential.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed indoors and outdoors, sometime in extreme weather conditions and temperatures. Work may require long periods of standing or walking. Work may at times entail a level of risk to person. Officers me be exposed to verbal and possible physical abuse by irate persons. Officers must be available to work multiple shifts at multiple campuses. The Public Safety Departments is a 24/7/365 operation. This is a part-time position and your continued employment is based on, but not limited to, your attendance, your availability, your demonstrated work ethic and the fiscal exigency of the department.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Valid Driver's License

  • 18 years of age

  • United States Citizen

  • No criminal record

  • Must pass a drug screening test

  • Must have demonstrable computer knowledge and skills

    EXPERIENCE:

Prior criminal justice experience preferred, but, not required.
