What You Will Achieve

This is a laboratory-based position in the Viral Vaccine & Immunology group (Research). The ideal applicant must have experience in biology and immunoassays related to Influenza and other respiratory viruses. Additional knowledge on viral vaccination in human and animal models is highly desirable. The incumbent should possess a strong scientific curiosity and rigor and be adaptable to take on the project's scientific challenges as they arise. The incumbent will work closely with the scientific leads, project teams, team members, and external collaborators to drive the design and execution of experiments and take a "hands on" role in laboratory activities. The incumbent will contribute to strategic directions for projects. The appointee will be part of a dynamic team and should possess a strong work ethic and collaborative spirit.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Design and conduct relevant immunology assays, including HAI, neutralization assays, ELISA, and other functional assays from human and animal models to evaluate immunogenicity of vaccine candidates.

  • Establish robust reverse genetic system for recombinant virus generation.

  • Develop new immunology assays as needed.

  • Document, interpret, and communicate experiments and results with a goal of advancing vaccine development, demonstrating high standards of scientific rigor, including compliant documentation and, when necessary, adherence to formal quality standards.

  • Collaborate extensively with those from other scientific disciplines from within the group, from other subdivisions of Vaccines R&D, from other divisions of Pfizer, and potentially from external partners.

  • Mentor junior scientists' activities and provide technical guidance, when necessary, potentially managing one or more junior scientists

  • Remain current in the scientific literature and state of the art techniques.

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • Candidate should have a PhD in virology and/or immunology with at least 6+ years of relevant experience.

  • Experience on viral immunology is a must.

  • Experience on immunology assays (antibodies and cell-mediated immunity) is highly desirable.

  • Skilled in molecular biology and animal models

  • Ability to work well in sight of aggressive timelines and excellence in communication

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented individual

  • Demonstrate curiosity and creative desire to answer scientific questions

  • Breadth of knowledge of different areas of science, awareness of new technologies, and familiarity with current issues to apply novel and innovative approaches to problem solving

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficiency in the use of Word processing, Excel, PowerPoint and relevant scientific software

Nice-to-Have

  • Vaccine industry experience

  • Managerial experience, preferably in a l research and development setting

Relocation support available

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $99,900.00 to $166,500.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 15.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
