Pfizer Principal Scientist Molecular Diagnostic Assays in Pearl River, New York

ROLE SUMMARY

This position is a senior member of an 8-10 person team focused on creating or sourcing molecular assays to be used as diagnostic tests supporting vaccine development. The role includes assay development of custom in-house molecular assays (PCR, NGS, LAMP) as well as identifying new technologies and platforms and forming partnerships to bring them in house. You will define the performance characteristics of the assays, scale them up and develop automation strategies, and collaborate with multiple other teams to create high-throughput, validated, diagnostic assays in a regulated environment. The lab follows Standard Operating Procedures and cGLP (current Good Laboratory Practice) and/or cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices). You will be recognized as a technical expert and a significant scientific contributor. With your deep knowledge of molecular methods, you will regularly contribute at the diagnostic area level and can represent the department on multidisciplinary teams. You will be using your scientific judgment to adapt standard methods and techniques by applying prior work experience. You will undertake mentoring activities to guide team members and will supervise technical staff members on your own team and collaboratively.

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • PhD with 2+ years of relevant experience

  • Expertise in qPCR, digital PCR, DNA and RNA extraction, and experimental design

  • Experience with assay validation and regulatory compliance

  • Experience in laboratory management including inventory and sample tracking, analyst scheduling, oversight of equipment documentation

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficiency in the use of Word processing, Excel, PowerPoint and relevant scientific software

Preferred

  • Managerial experience, preferably in a regulated environment such as GxP, CLIA, or ISO

  • Breadth of knowledge of different areas of science, awareness of new technologies, and familiarity with current issues to apply novel and innovative approaches to problem solving

  • Experience with laboratory automation, including Hamilton or open-source pipetting robots

  • Experience with next generation sequencing and dataset analysis including alignments and variant detection

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Complex data analysis, sitting at a biological safety cabinet

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $99,900.00 to $166,500.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 15.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
