Tidelands Health Payroll Accountant in Pawleys Island, South Carolina

Position Summary: Responsible for assisting the Payroll Manager with the accurate and timely reconciliation and processing of the healthcare system’s payroll taxes, which includes multi-state processing. Assist Payroll Manager with the review and reconciliation of payroll corrections. Responsible for the reconciliation of W2s and annual returns. Assist with the maintenance and end user training of the timekeeping system.

Duties Include:

  • Reconciles all monthly and quarterly payroll tax returns, including but not limited to 941s and ensures proper and timely filing and payment by third party provider.

  • Reconciles and ensures timely filing and issuance of W-2 Wage and Tax Statements.

  • Maintains accurate tax rates within the payroll system.

  • Assists Payroll Manager with payroll tax jurisdiction maintenance – requesting new withholding accounts, closing inactive withholding accounts, etc.

  • Assists Payroll Manger with review of routine payroll corrections for accuracy of employee payments.

  • Reviews payroll journal entries posted to the general ledger for accuracy.

  • Approves and processes funding requests for third party deductions.

  • Prepares general ledger reconciliations, entries and analysis for review by Payroll Manager and/or Director of Accounting & Treasury.

  • Assists with the compilation of financial, tax, and payroll reports for both external and internal purposes.

  • Assists timekeepers on the proper usage of the time and attendance system including training of new timekeepers.

  • Provides payroll information as needed to accountants for invoicing, census filings, insurance renewals and other regulatory requests/filings.

  • Prepares annual workers compensation payroll estimates for insurance renewals.

  • Assists with annual workers compensation audits.

  • Contributes to the testing and implementation of system upgrades for time and attendance software and payroll software.

  • Provides payroll processing assistance as needed.

  • Assists with the development of new procedures and policies related to payroll operations utilizing knowledge of state and federal policies.

Contribute to departmental and organizational special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Education:

  • Associates degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration, required.

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration, preferred

  • Experience:

  • Five (5) years in payroll including payroll tax preparation/reconciliation, required. Consideration of additional directly related work experience in lieu of degree.

  • Minimum experience of five years in payroll including payroll tax preparation/reconciliation, required.

  • Healthcare setting experience, preferred.

  • Multi-state/EIN setting experience, preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills, required.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, required.

  • Excellent customer service skills, required.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint), required.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, preferred.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.

  • Able to manage and adapt to multiple demands, shifting priorities and possess a sense of urgency.

  • Able to manage strict deadlines.

  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment with high level of accuracy.

  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills on a regular basis.

  • Previous experience with Workday, preferred.
