SMX is seeking a Unix Team member for a fast-paced UNIX environment. The chosen candidate will work with a group of UNIX/Linux Systems Administrators at the Patuxent River Data Center (PRDC). The UNIX team lead will ensure that all systems on Department of Defense (DoD) networks are appropriately patched and configured to the organizationally defined hardening policies. The UNIX member will ensure that National Help Desk incidents and service requests are completed/resolved in a timely manner as well as work on ad-hoc projects involving different systems and applications across the Data Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assisting with operating system and security patching efforts across multiple DoD Enclaves.

  • Work collaboratively with other Data Center teams to provide Unix/Linux based solutions to meet business requirements.

  • Responsible for the creation and maintenance of Ansible playbooks and other administrative shell scripting.

  • Effectively analyze and resolve problems involving interaction between applications, server hardware/firmware/OS and storage by working with cross functional teams and equipment vendors with minimal supervision.

  • Participating in an on-call rotation.

  • Taking ownership of outages and seeing that the issue is resolved in a timely manner.

  • Taking ownership of incidents and service requests via ticketing queue and seeing that the requests are completed in a timely manner.

  • Attend meetings with current and incoming customers for technical advice on proposed projects.

Required Skills:

  • Clearance Required: Active Secret with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret

  • DoD 8570 compliant (IAT Level 2) (Examples of minimum acceptable certifications: CCNA Security, CySA+, G SEC, Security+ CE, SSCP)

  • Experience with Red Had Identity Management

  • Experience with Red Hat Satellite

  • Knowledge of DoD Information Assurance practices, including Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) and Risk Management Framework (RMF) process

  • Experience with Red Hat Openshift

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) exposure

  • Experience working within a complex Unix team environment

  • Experience in RHEL 7 & 8

Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is preferred.

  • Experience with escalating vendor support

  • Cloud-based certifications
