Purpose/Introduction

The Analytical Systems Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing the Pasadena Plastics Complex's online process analyzers and hydrocarbon detection system. Records are maintained daily for all analytical activities both electronically and written. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

This position works a 4/10 schedule which includes periodic rotating on-call responsibilities. Other schedules may be necessary according to conditions in the complex (turnarounds, shutdowns, control problems, etc) or to complete special assignments from the Technical Services Team Leader.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain PPC (Pasadena Plastics Complex) process/environmental analyzers on a 24/7 basis

  • Maintain the PPC hydrocarbon, and carbon monoxide detectors

  • Document repairs in an electronic and paper database

  • Use SAP to document repairs, purchase parts, confirm time and write notifications

  • Participate in PPC PSM process

  • Comply with federal, state and local PPC procedures and regulations. Assist in developing procedures and policies to benefit the safety and productivity of PPC

  • Provide technical and engineering support

  • Assist Analytical Systems Specialist in writing PIRs (Project Initiation Request) to justify new projects

Required Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Instrumentation Technology or equivalent from a trade school or Jr. Collage OR High School diploma/GED with 5 years of field experience, such as, maintenance service work performed on online Process Analyzers would be acceptable.

  • Must have a basic understanding of electronic theory and digital logic system

  • Must be capable of instructing maintenance personnel in troubleshooting techniques and maintenance procedures. Additionally, the following skills are required or developed as the job responsibilities progress

  • Must be self-motivated with a positive attitude

  • Proven knowledge of the Siemens Gas Chromatographs, Yokogawa Gas, Sample Systems, Oxygen and Hydrocarbon detection systems

  • Good communication skills written, verbal, and presentation

  • Proven ability through prior successful assignments

  • Commitment to a 4/10 shift schedule, including nights, holidays, weekends and overtime, as necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledgeable in Chemistry and some familiarization with Process Analyzers in the Polyethylene industry

  • Working knowledge of Management of Change (MOC), the Safety and Loss Manual, Process Safety Management Program and the Health and Hygiene Manual

  • Working knowledge of SAP modules

  • Good understanding of the PPC (Pasadena Plastics Complex) organization and systems
