We are looking for a Food Scientist interested in starting a SWEET career as part of our R&D team at PIM’s Park Ridge site in New Jersey.

Worksite:

  • The PIM Brands Global Headquarters in Park Ridge, New Jersey

  • HYBRID - The role requires working on-site: Monday thru Thursday. Work from home/remotely on Fridays

Qualifications

JOB SUMMARY

Applies scientific and engineering principles in research, development, production technology, packaging, processing and utilization of foods. Develops new and improved methods and systems for product processing and production. Studies methods to improve the quality of the manufactured products, such as flavor, color, texture, convenience, or physical, chemical and microbiological composition of the manufactured product. Supports the development of product formulations, evaluation of new products and ingredients. Assists in the definition of process parameters, procedural specifications, shelf life evaluations, coordinates pilot and manufacturing trials, documents trial results and coordinates product start-ups. Tests new products in the laboratory and develops specific processing methods and interacts with the process engineer, QA/QC, production management, packaging and marketing leaders to resolve problems.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Develop formulations, ingredients and specifications.

  2. Develop analytical, and quality control metrics.

  3. Coordinate and oversee all sensory testing.

  4. Test new recipes.

  5. Work with formulas to create product samples.

  6. Establish procedures.

  7. Develop and validate parameters that are compatible with manufacturing equipment.

  8. Modify to scale.

  9. Conduct bench testing.

  10. Enter data of findings from trials and bench work. Maintain accurate records.

  11. Drive innovation and new product development.

  12. Monitor pre-qualification and qualification runs, and closeout visits to the production floor to ensure proper procedures and GMP practice compliance.

    EDUCATION, SKILLS and EXPERIENCE

    BS in Food science or chemistry or food engineering. Master of PhD is preferred.

    5 plus years in the food manufacturing industry required. Basic skills related to chemical analysis, food processing and project management are a must. Knowledge of raw materials and ingredient functionality are essential. Proficient in office software (Excel, Word, Office). Must be able to perform mathematical functions. Excellent, effective communication skills are required as well as effective presentation skills. Demonstrated proficiency in supporting and communicating technical information to all technical, production and marketing staff. Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) language skills a plus.
