New Bridge Medical Center PHYSICIAN PER DIEM, ACUTE PHYSICIAN SERVICES, ADDICTION TREATMENT UNIT (23883) in Paramus, New Jersey

Description

  • Obtain comprehensive health histories on adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

  • Perform comprehensive physical, psychosocial, and mental examinations, including developmental and functional status determination.

  • Manage patients with acute and chronic disorders.

  • Interpret x-rays, with assistance from physician, in order to formulate diagnosis.

  • Interpret lab values with order to correct abnormalities.

  • Evaluate consultations and make concise case presentations to physicians, differentiating normal from abnormal findings, and suggest differential and presumptive diagnosis.

  • Prioritize and initiate pertinent diagnostic test(s).

  • Analyze assessment data to determine medical diagnosis.

  • Develop a prioritized comprehensive problem list.

  • Identify expected patient outcomes in collaboration with patient, family, and other professionals.

  • Systematically utilize the nursing process as the method of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care.

  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.

  • Assesses gaps in policies and procedures, and create necessary policies and procedures to fulfill these gaps.

  • Familiar with the Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, and Values Statements.

OTHER JOB DUTIES

  • Participates in continuing education activities; attends scheduled in-service programs; shares information gained at conferences with colleagues.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

BASIC COMPETENCIES

Education/Certification:

  • Graduation from an accredited medical school plus completion of required residency in specialty.

  • Board certification in specialty area or current active participation in the examination process.

  • Board certified Internal Medicine; or Board Qualified physicians are required to sit for and pass their Board examinations within five years of employment.

  • Evidence of formal, supervised training or clinical experience as required for certain procedures.

Licensure:

  • Valid and unlimited license to practice medicine in the State of New Jersey.

  • Valid license to prescribe controlled substances.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in area of specialty as set forth in credentialing requirements for that specialty.

Skills:

  • Technical skills required for practice in specialty.

  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Good interpersonal skills.

  • Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position.

JOB SETTING/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Hospital, clinical areas.

  • Contact with staff, patients, family, regulatory agencies.

  • Mobility required.

  • Manual dexterity.

  • Frequent or prolonged standing/walking required in practice of some specialties.

  • Exposed to infections, contagious diseases and bloodborne diseases.

  • Handles emergency or crisis situations.

  • Lifts, positions, pushes, and/or transfers patients.

  • Protective clothing worn: face shield, 3M Healthcare Particulate Respirator, gloves, impermeable gown.

  • Follow patients on a daily basis with interpretation of lab, x-ray, and results from diagnostic procedures, and document in progress notes.

  • Act as Collaborating physician with Nurse Practitioner concerning all patient care.

  • Document in the patient’s record all pertinent patient interactions and care.

  • Identify risk factors and provide health teaching and discharge planning for primary and secondary prevention.

  • Make referrals to appropriate person or services.

  • Collaborate with other staff members to improve quality of patient care.

  • Provide discharge instructions with prescriptions given and follow-up visits arranged.

  • Provide emotional support to family members in the event of crisis or death of patient.

  • Acquire and maintain current knowledge in advanced practice.

  • Contribute to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others upon request.

  • Critically evaluate and modify existing practice based upon current research findings.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary quality improvement efforts to improve clinical practice.

  • Correctly perform procedures according to delineation of privileges.

  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs.

  • Completes all documentation in patient medical records.

  • Understands and adheres to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct.
