Ford Motor Company Digital Systems Safety Engineer in Palo Alto, California

In this position...

Develop and apply processes from Functional Safety ISO 26262 and Safety of the Intended Functionality (SOTIF) ISO 21448, including Systems Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)

  • Develop and apply processes from Functional Safety ISO 26262 and Safety of the Intended Functionality (SOTIF) ISO 21448, including Systems Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)

  • Perform system safety & functional safety analyses on systems for the development of Functional Safety Concepts, Technical Safety Concepts, Functional Safety Requirements and Technical Safety Requirements.

  • Research, develop and integrate advanced system safety processes on research development projects.

  • Support development of Systems Engineering deliverables

  • Develop SysML models at the system level incorporating the use of Functional Safety and System Safety methods.

  • Perform competitive analyses and maintain knowledge of emerging technologies in the dependability (safety engineering) field.

  • You'll have...

  • Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, controls engineering, robotics, aerospace, or a related field.

  • 3+ years of previous work experience in applying Functional Safety in accordance with ISO 26262 or equivalent safety standard from non-automotive industries

  • 1+ years of previous work experience with Safety Analysis Techniques (primarily hazard analysis and risk assessment (HARA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Systems Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA), (failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), Hazard and Operability (HAZOP).

  • 1 + year experience in developing systems requirements, including for testing or validation.

  • 6 months experience with systems modeling and simulation.

Even better, you may have...

  • Master’s degree in in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, controls engineering or a related field.

  • Creation of Boundary Diagrams, P-Diagrams, Interface Matrix

  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink

  • Familiar with SysML

  • Experience in real-time online verification of systems and functional safety requirements.

  • Familiar with SOTIF ISO 21448

  • 1+ years in C++ or Python

  • Related Git link or publication would be appreciated

  • Passion for developing and maintaining a safety culture.

This position is a range of salary grades 6-8 .
