Position Specific Description

This position will be an integral part of our Transport Network Engineering team, which designs, implements and maintains the optical transport network infrastructure that supports NextEra Energy and its subsidiaries - Florida Power & Light (FPL) and NextEra Energy Resources (NEER).

If you understand the importance of light levels, dB loss, application response time, can read a packet capture, have a good understanding of the OSI model, enjoy being technically challenged and have experience using products from Nokia, Cisco and Ciena with a solid understanding of wireless, DWDM optical transport networking and IP MPLS transport networking you may be the perfect fit for our team.

The position reports directly to the Transport Network Engineering Manager with work locations available in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach, Florida for the right candidate.

In this position you will work with some of the brightest minds in the clean energy and utility industry as they work to ensure NextEra is the largest and most capable clean energy provider in North America and the best electric utility in the world.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Strong knowledge of information technologies and telecommunications.

• In-depth understanding and experience working with varying network architectures and typologies.

• Experienced with the design, implementation and support of data networking technologies (routing, switching & Optical/CWDM/DWDM platforms).

• Experienced with data networking products (Nokia 7000 Series Network Routers, 1830 PSS platforms and Cisco Enterprise & Core Network Routers.

• Working knowledge and experience in configuring and troubleshooting routing protocols (OSPF, ISIS, BGP and MPLS Networks used to provide VPN Services).

• Experienced working with Network Management Systems & Tools such as Nokia NSP (NFM-P & NFM-T), Cisco Prime, IBM Tivoli Netcool, NetScout nGeniusONE & nGeniusPULSE, OTDR testing, OSPInsight and NTest FiberWatch.

• Responsible for strategic and tactical plans, and engineering designs for optical telecommunications network facilities including fiber optics, optical backhaul and data communications equipment, including transport of Power Delivery communications systems.

• Responsible for development and compliance of engineering standards including documentation, product, lifecycle plans and design packages.

• Maintain the security of network infrastructure and compliance with all applicable industry and security standards (NERC CIP, PCI, SOX)

• Develop as-built, topology, architectural and logical design documentation for all new projects, network changes and network engineering efforts and ensure they are accurate and up to date to meet our business needs.

• Experience with utility systems, including SCADA, tele-protection circuits, microwave and cellular.

• Responsible for coordinating supplemental engineering service providers and/or contractors performing engineering design and support for Telecommunications projects.

• Responsible for developing and participation in the successful completion of IT Infrastructure projects.

• Responsible for providing high level technical support and maintenance (preventative and quality assurance), as well as backup maintenance and installation coverage related to the identified networks and equipment.

• Develop Philosophy documentation to establish standards and provide guidance for network engineering.

• Works collaboratively with team to ensure high levels of ongoing system and application performance in production environments

Required Qualifications

• Experience – 7+ years of relevant industry experience with optical transport technologies, large enterprise, utility networking or carrier network IP/MPLS implementations and in-depth knowledge of current network hardware, protocols & security practices.

• Education – High School Grad / GED

• Bachelors or Equivalent Experience

• Certifications – Nokia NRS 1, ONC

Preferred Qualifications

• Education – Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or other advanced science or engineering field

• Certifications – Nokia Network Routing Specialist I (NRS I), Nokia Network Routing Specialist II (NRS II), Nokia Service Routing Architect (SRA), Nokia Optical Network Certification (ONC), Cisco CCNA, CCNP, CCDP or CCIE, Six Sigma

This position can be based at any of our offices in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach Gardens, or Juno Beach, FL.

Job Overview

This role is responsible for assisting with the design, leading the implementation, and supporting the maintenance of our enterprise network infrastructure. Employees in this role work directly with management, project managers, and business leaders to ensure that projects are successfully delivered on-time and within budget. This position acts as an escalation point for issues that are encountered in our 24x7 environment to ensure that the availability and performance of our systems is maintained. Employees also ensure that all documentation is accurate and up-to-date and that our infrastructure remains secure at all times.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Works directly with equipment manufactures to assess new technologies and how they can be applied to provide solutions to increase availability, reliability, and business agility or to reduce operating costs

• Analyzes new projects and designs network solutions that will support their implementation

• Participates in the implementation of network infrastructure

• Creates as-built design documentation for all new projects and network engineering efforts, and ensures they remain up-to-date as the network evolves

• Maintains the availability and integrity of our enterprise network infrastructure, including wired and wireless networks, network security infrastructure, and voice transport infrastructure

• Maintains the security of network infrastructure and compliance with all applicable industry and security standards

• Acts as the highest level of engineering escalation for issues encountered within the network environment and security environments

• Demonstrates experience with network management operational tools such as Cisco Prime, Netscout, and IBM Tivoli

• Performs other job-related duties as assigned
