Actalent Controls Technician in Oxford, North Carolina

Job Title: Controls TechnicianJob Description

As a Controls Technician, you will be responsible for interpreting PLC ladder logic and troubleshooting electrical control systems, including PLCs, robotics, servos, drives, and touch-screens. You will work with brands such as GE and Siemens, using a laptop to diagnose and resolve issues. This role requires a solid understanding of industrial electrical controls and the National Electric Code, as well as hands-on experience with electrical panel fabrication and wiring.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and troubleshoot PLC ladder logic and electrical control systems including PLC, robotics, servos, drives, and touch-screens.

  • Work with GE, Siemens, and other brands to diagnose and resolve issues using a laptop.

  • Fabricate and wire electrical panels and terminal boxes.

  • Read and update electrical and pneumatic schematics.

  • Operate power shop tools and common hand tools.

  • Meet work at heights requirements while operating a scissor lift.

  • Develop continuous improvement plans and recommend more efficient and cost-effective methods to complete jobs.

  • Effectively perform formal root cause analysis.

  • Engage in ongoing learning to keep up with new technologies.

Essential Skills

  • 5 years of experience in industrial electrical controls or equivalent education.

  • Working knowledge of the National Electric Code.

  • Solid understanding of Ohm’s Law and other fundamental electrical principles.

  • Proficient in PC computing.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to stand and/or walk 90% of an 8-hour day, including climbing ladders or steps.

  • Must meet vision and hearing requirements.

  • Pass written and practical electrical tests.

  • Electrical Arc Flash Safety and Lock Out Tag Out training.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 2-year technical degree in electronics or PLC troubleshooting (Associates degree).

  • Ability to sketch and interpret electrical and controls schematics.

  • Experience with PLC programming, electrical troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.

  • Knowledge of robotics, particularly Fanuc and Siemens PLCs.

Work Environment

This role is based in a large industrial manufacturing environment, spanning over 1 million square feet. The work requires standing and walking for the majority of an 8-hour day, including climbing ladders or steps. Personal protective equipment, including steel-toed boots and safety glasses, is mandatory.
