Type of Position: Full-time Faculty, Exempt

Work Schedule, Hours per week: Varies with department schedule/needs, 40 hours per week

Pay Range: \$48,683 - \$81,416 and determined based on relevant years of work experience.

Position Summary: The mission of the department is to provide basic cognitive and skill training to students that wish to become firefighters. In addition, further studies will provide students with the requisite knowledge to become leaders in the fire service by attaining an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Fire Service Administration. The Assistant Professor position is a full-time nine (9) month faculty bargaining unit position teaching fire courses, conducting program and student related activities, providing assistance with program related facilitation tasks and facilitating the sharing of resource materials, facilities, and equipment for instructors. Additionally, this position represents the program to internal and external constituents; supports college policies and procedures; participates in college, division, and program activities; and contributes to the growth and enhancement of the college\'s mission and programs. This position will also contribute by assisting with other program and divisional activities as assigned as well as support the Director in preparing the IFSAC fire program accreditation every five years. Also teaching in the regional fire academy environment including applications in live fire environments and other skills requiring the candidate to wear appropriate personal protective and required safety equipment.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS degree or higher

  • Strong Communication skills

  • State Certifications: Fire Instructor I and Fire Officer II

  • Ability to teach in the following areas:

    o Hazardous Materials Awareness & Operations

    o Firefighter I & II

    o Fire Science Law

    o Building Construction

    o Historical Foundations of Fire

    o Fire Fighting Tactics

    o Fire Management

    o Fire and Emergency Management

    o Codes, Detection & Suppression Systems

    o Leadership in Fire Science

  • 10 years of Fire Service experience

  • 3+ years of Community College or Higher Education teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS degree
  • Canvas learning management system skills
  • Leadership skills
  • 5+years Fire Services administrative experience
