Great Prairie Area Education Agency Custodian in Ottumwa, Iowa

Great Prairie Area Education Agency has two Custodian openings. One part time morning shift Custodian and one part time evening shift Custodian. These positions will report to the Ottumwa AEA office location.

251-Day Contract (6-hour days).

Starting pay: $17.17-$17.67/hour with a generous paid leave package in addition to a monthly cafeteria plan allotment of $989.80 and IPERS retirement.

Position Overview:

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the Agency facilities to ensure that it is clean, safe, and attractive for staff, clients and visitors.

Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of janitorial functions

  • Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities:

  • Opening of facilities (day shift). Closing of facilities (evening shift).

  • Cleaning the facilities and maintaining the grounds to provide for a clean, safe and healthy workplace environment.

  • Maintaining an adequate supply of custodial supplies and maintenance supplies.

  • Perform a variety of cleaning duties including, (but not limited to, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, emptying of trash and recycle containers, filling dispensers, cleaning toilets and restrooms, light fixtures, windows and blinds, and appliances.

  • Performing routine maintenance of agency heating equipment, air conditioning, and electrical fixtures, including maintenance of equipment on non-scheduled work time when needed. This also includes making sure that materials, tools and equipment are in good working order.

  • Provides room set-up, such as moving and arranging furniture for meetings and activities.

  • Delivery of and pick up of materials throughout the facility, as well as helping in movement of other large items.

  • Keeps walks and entries clear of snow, ice and debris.

  • Mows the grass (Ottumwa).

  • Performs floor maintenance including stripping, waxing and burnishing of hard surfaces and carpet extraction using specialized equipment (per schedule agreed upon by supervisor).

  • Perform such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Chief Financial Officer or designee.

Additional Responsibilities :

  • Develops and maintains proper and adequate records and documentation in accordance with Agency policies and procedures.

  • Performs required duties for fluid spill cleanup and waste disposal in accordance with OSHA regulations and Agency procedures.

  • Performs minor building and equipment repairs.

  • Secure facility in the evening.

  • Participates in projects, committees or activities to support the Agency’s mission, goals and priorities.

  • Participates in staff development and professional growth activities.

Physical Requirements :

  • Above average levels or bending, climbing, reaching, standing and walking.

  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds or more.

  • Sufficient manual dexterity to be able to operate all equipment needed to complete responsibilities.
