  • Evaluates, and takes appropriate action to maintain a safe work environment with established standards and guidelines. Know and apply written safety procedures. Provide engineering, PPE. or training solutions to high exposure areas based on near missed and accident reports. Inspect work areas, and look for unsafe acts. Complete projects/assignments safely and efficiently.
  • Investigates, evaluates and takes appropriate action to maintain and improve production efficiencies within the established standards or guidelines. Provide plant engineering support as required; PLC programming/program design, and electrical & mechanical troubleshooting. Support the design, improvement and fabrication of internally developed and purchased blow molding and auxiliary equipment.
  • Develop and implement cost saving measures to current production methods/machines.
  • Provide detailed electrical/mechanical drawings as needed. Assist in development of plant layouts and improvements. Effectively use verbal and written communications.
  • Establishes and maintains project schedules from inception, to commissioning, to operations. Coordination of all technical activities on assigned projects. Plans, schedules, conducts and coordinates assigned engineering/maintenance work.
  • Monitors work for compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices, and Silgan Plastics standards.
  • Ensures effective communication and coordination on assigned projects between all disciplines, project participants, and management.
  • Other duties as assigned. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (if applicable): This position requires the cognitive and mental ability to multitask in a fast paced environment with attention to detail. Mechanical Aptitude is a plus. While performing the essentials functions and duties of this job, would occasionally be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands & arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools or controls. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Overtime may be necessary as work load' dictate. This may include weekday, weekends, and/or holidays. Job will generally be performed in a manufacturing or office environment. But may require travel to and visit a supplier's facility. Conditions will vary at each location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply. * EDUCATION: Required: High School diploma or GED equivalent Preferred: Engineering degree (i.e., Mechanical. Electrical, or similar discipline) and over 3 years of experience with advance knowledge, obtainable usually through a combination of experience and continuing education; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. SKILLS: Required: Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds continuously throughout the shift. Work involves continuous lifting, bending, reaching and twisting. Strong commitment to safety a must, mechanically inclined, ability to multitask and prioritize tasks, self-motivated, work with minimal supervision, good written & verbal communication skills, good work ethic, project management skills, good work ethic, project management skills, analytical in nature and good training skills. Preferred: Computer skills; Microsoft office required, oracle experience a plus. Drawing skills; AutoCAD. Extensive knowledge of PLC programming. Preferably AB and Omron. Knowledge of industrial systems (electrical, mechanical, pneumatic & hydraulic). Knowledge of Robotics including servos & vision system a plus.
