Facilities and Operations

BUILDING & GROUNDS MAINTENANCE WORKER

Purpose Statement

The Building & Grounds Maintenance Worker accomplishes the effective and efficient maintenance of school districts property by maintaining the buildings and grounds in a safe, attractive, comfortable, and clean environment to ensure full and productive use of the districts facilities. To accomplish these tasks the Building & Grounds Maintenance Worker must work closely with the staff and administration of U.S.D. No. 290.

Essential Functions

Maintain schools and grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities.

Appropriately operate all equipment and machinery for the purpose of instruction and safety.

Communicate and work effectively with all members of the school district and community.

Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.

React to change and frequent interruptions productively and handle other task as assigned.

Appropriately operate all equipment and machinery as required.

Maintains tools and/or equipment for the purpose of insuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.

Procures equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.

Prepares documentation (e.g. daily paper work, work orders, time and materials, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support in compliance with regulations and/or conveying information.

Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines.

Support the value of an education.

Support the philosophy and mission of U.S.D. No. 290.

Other Functions

Assist other departments as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

Job Requirements: Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office.

Convey a positive and professional image to visitors, employees, and students.

Ability to grasp, lift and/or carry or otherwise move goods weighing a maximum of 100 pounds.

Must work indoors and outdoors year-around.

Must maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all maintenance and repair projects.

Move equipment and materials within and between buildings.

Work overtime when emergencies arise in order to prevent disruption of the schools.

Ability to work independently without supervision.

Desire to continue career improvement.

Demonstrated communications skills with the ability to work effectively with others.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: paperwork, problem solving, operating equipment; preparing and maintaining accurate records; handling hazardous materials; and adhering to safety practices.

KNOWLEDGE is required to read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: handling of hazardous materials; and safety practices.

ABILITY is required to consider a wide variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with equipment and chemicals utilizing defined but different processes; and utilize equipment under a variety of conditions for multipl purposes. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and use a variety of job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include; adapting to changing work priorities; dealing with emergency situations, communicating with diverse groups; setting priorities; displaying mechanical aptitude; working independently or as part of a team; and meeting deadlines and schedules.
