University of Maine System Electrical Supervisor in Orono, Maine

The University of Maine Facilities Management Department seeks applications for an Electrical Supervisor. Starting salary may be $29.38 - $30.59 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervises skilled electric trades staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.

  • Coordinates department activities which includes determining maintenance needs, preparing work orders, and/or performing related duties.

  • Assists in monitoring the department budget which may include reviewing and approving expenditures and allocating resources.

  • Monitors and maintains inventory. Requisitions supplies when levels are low.

  • Prepares and maintains a variety of operational records, logs, reports, and/or related documents

  • Participates in complex or advanced department maintenance and operations activities.

  • Performing maintenance and repairs in assigned skilled trade as necessary.

  • Coordinating the work order system by assigning and gathering information on work orders.

  • Determining scope and direction of project between replacement or repair.

  • Performing inspections of repairs and systems to ensure compliance with applicable standards and codes.

  • Determining project staffing, both internal and contract staff.

  • Designing and developing installation plans.

  • Developing cost estimates and ordering all necessary supplies.

  • Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Five years’ relevant electrical experience, in addition to a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Master’s license in electrical trade

  • Valid Maine Drivers license.

  • Supervisory Skills.

  • Hands on mechanical, planning, forecasting, communication, and judgement skills.

  • Knowledge of compliance and regulation standards.

  • Independent judgment along with effective communication and interpersonal skills are a must to work with both internal and external constituents.

  • Customer service skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work comfortably with people who possess a diverse array of skills, knowledge, abilities, and backgrounds.

  • Proven organization, time utilization and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to work efficiently, independently and accurately within a time-constrained environment and maintain a high degree of productivity.

  • Demonstrated reliable professional judgment and problem-solving skills.

Preferred:

  • Single or a combination of licensing in mechanical, plumbing, and electrical trades preferred. (examples are journeyman’s in plumbing and electrical, certifications in refrigeration and natural gas propane)

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: A. Manages one supervisor and approximately ten to fifteen full time and temporary employees or students.

Positions in this class typically require: Ability to perform physical activities that require talking, hearing, seeing and considerable and repetitive use of arms and legs and moving entire body, such as reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, climbing, lifting, bending, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials. Heavy work: The ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Lifting and exerting forces more than 50 pounds requires assistance by other employee(s) or mechanical assistance. Individual forces must never exceed 50 pounds.
